I'm not sure about this, but it might be to make their hair look healthier. The blue makes their hair look more of a bright white, instead of what might be an unhealthy yellow cast. Pretty smart, if you ask me. I'll take that to note when I've got white hair and like it, too. I've also heard of a pink rinse, but I'm not sure why for that. Perhaps it's just a spin-off of the blue? I guess the pink is cuter than an old unhealthy boring yellow, too.

it is not because of personal hygiene, many elderly women cannot reach their head because of arthritis or fybromyalgia, they get it washed and set once a week, then teased, you don't necessarily need a can of hair spray, back in the old days it was very common to get a roller set or beehive once a week and many ladies have just carried on the tradition

thier hair is short because the "norm" is that when you age your hair looks better shorter, longer hair ages you. it looks perfect all the time because most of them get thier hair fixed at a salon on a weekly basis, then either wear a sleep bonnet or wrap, and fresen it up after they wake up. It doesn't mean they have bad hygeine, most of them still bathe daily, they just don't wash thier hair, but they're also not touching it all the time to make it greasy.

As a whole, shorter hair is easier to maintain. A large number I know go to a stylist weekly as part of their routine.

They get it "done" once a week at the beauty shop. They spray it down with hair spray so it stays for a week. No kidding !

probably not, it's likely to be weeks worth of hairspray that keeps it in place due to lack of washing and poor personal hygene.
