I work in a Residential Home for The Elderly, that has a 10 bedded EMI unit. In my opinion whereas it is helpful to know an individuals diagnosis and prognosis, it is more important to get to know the person themselves, and to self assess yourself in how you are going to cope with, and assist the person concerned. Someone admitted with `dementia` could have a mild type or be more advanced. Whatever sort they are afflicted with, they are going to get worse, which is why knowing, and being familiar with the person is so important in delivering a high quality of care.

There are lots of different types of dementia with different presentations and causes, some are caused by physical problems and some illness mimic dementia. So you would need a good idea of what type of problem you are dealing so you can prescribe the right type of treatment.

Know the differences and indicators of severe, moderate, and mild dementia. Individuals with severe Alzheimer's have trouble with motor skills and speech, whereas individuals with a mild diagnosis are progressively forgeting things. Be aware that Alzheimer's occurs because proteins in the brain are getting tangled and cutting off nutrient supplies to healthy neurons, so it will get worse as the disease progresses and more cells are lost.

because not all old people have dementia, people just think they have it, but really its the drugs that they are receiving that are causing the dementia, take predazone it is a very powerful drug given to many people with lung problems. it can cause a person to act like a person that has dementia, go ahead look it up,and if this drug causes this effect i am sure there are other that cause it to. i have seen i first hand.
