Khao Lak and the surrounding area, while recovering from the tsunami and becoming more developed is still much more peaceful and quiet than much of Phuket.
The beaches are not full, the primeval rain forest that is the back drop to the beach and the Andaman Sea is spectacular and you can engage in many activities from elephant trekking in the jungle to diving (and learning to dive) off the Khao Lak coast, or the beautiful Similan Islands.
Go you will enjoy it.

The Tsunami took place more than 2 years ago and luckely everything has been rebuilt better than ever...

Khao Lak is nice, and almost all hotels are new
