I think that nuns are oppressed in their own way. They have been fed bull about how terrible their sexuality is and are made to believe that a life of conformity is great.
Personally, I don't care what people wear. That's their own choice. If they wish to buy into some bull about how they're supposed to cover themselves in order not to offend some mythical god, that's their business.

Ok, two things immediately. Nuns are cloistered in a community and represent a vocation if you will, bit like being a nurse in a uniform, there is no dress code for ALL women, and it is a uniform, if you as a non-relative ask to see a nuns face she will oblige, oh and she can always leave her religion without fear of death for apostacy.
On the subject of condemnation for crimes, if there was a poll taken and up to 20% of Christians said that it was fully justified to walk into mosques and blow worshippers apart as a response to 9/11 or 7/7 there would be outrage and condemnation from everyone. This is what happens constantly in the UK with polls taken of young Muslims.
Many official spokesmen for Muslims equivocate when asked to condemn terrorism in a way which no other religious grouping does. There is also the little matter of some interpretting Islam to mean one should NOT help non-Islamic authorities locate Islamic wrongdoers.
And my money is on you being muslim.

A nun chooses to become a nun and most of the nuns of today wear modern day clothes-they are not oppressed as they choice that way of life in the first place. A muslim woman in this country can wear traditional dress, she does not have to wear the veil and she is not oppressed either. The media is hyping things and do not have a clue about Islam. The government has an ideology to follow and they should know that people are comfortable with their own ethnic backgrounds. Multiculturism is not easy to apply there are a lot of people who work to 'build bridges' behind the scenes. There is also a very dangerous faction in the world which is hell bent on imposing it's own ideology, as you know.

That is really good. I'm sick of everybody going on about Muslims starting wars.
Ireland has had wars between Christians who believe in the same god and worship with practically the same services and churches since 1690. After 7/7 I have heard non stop about all Muslims (which is a peaceful religion that promotes love for all humans and not the hell and brimstone of the old testament of the bible) being terrorists when no one is saying all Christians are bombers after the amount of bombs the IRA and UVF/UDA set off in England and Northern Ireland.
People should be entitled to their own beliefs without people accusing them of being terrorists.
And as for any religion suppressing people woman are considered second class citizens in the BIBLE.
The last of the Irish launderies where children were beaten and used as slaves closed down in 1990s. Know all you people above me who have said muslim women dont get to choose their religion - did all the young girls and women choose to be catholic and be sent to these launderies for crimes such as being raped.
Thanks for listening to my rant!!!

Firstly, a nun which, is of the Catholic doctrine, can decide to freely leave her order, shedding of her habit, without ramifications and still serve God.
Depending on where the Muslim woman presides, if she decides to stop covering up knowing that just because she isn't covered she still can serve God, she would face plenty of ramifications, either ostracized by her family, the Muslim community or both. Again, this would depend on where the Muslim woman is from.
Secondly, the Muslim community is theological and puts no importance on a community that is basically secular. Example, the Muslim man who was charged for beating his wife; in court he waved the Qu'ran stating that this allowed him to take the actions that he did, he was highly offended because we (the community, and laws) take no heed in what the Qu'ran says.
Mixing Islam with secular laws is like mixing oil and vinegar, it mixes for a while then separates.

Look like you didn't notice that the world is not like 20 years ago, we are in the middle of a war against terrorists, that they will not hesitate to kill you and your family in the name of ALA, Ask you muslim friends who you are in the coram, and you will find out that you are an INFIDEL and ALA"S call is to kill you and your family,No all muslims are bad, but not all germans was bad when they kill 6 millions jewish, HATE is the cup from where they drink day by day in the mosques around the world, hate against everithing don't praise ALA as the only god and remember don't buy the lies they use trying to look they so inocent, because they are not the extremist ,fanatics will not stop in their agenda, what a ridiculous comparision about a nun and a muslim woman, one choose to use the clothes to honor his god and if she likes to leave and dress like secular no one is going to beat her to death and about the media ,i think you are misinform al-jazeara, broadcast in daily basis the killing of soldiers and beheading and all the violence and cruelty they do in irak, iran, libanon by hezbolla, al queda and others radical muslims.
, we are not inocents in our side, but hate, killing and violence is not the answer,
Ask your friends what they think about all this violence and about the extrmists we need a good muslims said enough is enough and stand for peace as a community, but instead they show their support to the terrorists and that is not only in america but all around the world.

All groups , communities, that have among them fanatical zealot's , will, inevitably be tainted by the actions of a few. This is a sad truth, whether it be religious or political.

So what do you think your colleagues would say if you were to remind them that the loonies who flew the 9/11 planes would not have done so had they not been led to believe that they would enjoy a martyr's reward in the afterlife?
I have no sympathy for Islam whatsoever. When the Muslims want to leave the Dark Ages and toss their holy book into the fire where it belongs, then maybe they'll stop being regarded as lunatics, and that goes for the Christians too.
