If you were to ask my cats, they would give it a thumbs up. They don't like anything, but Purina.
I've bought cheaper brands, more expensive brands, Meow Mix (with colored pieces), etc. None of them liked any of the others. The colored pieces make them throw up. The cheaper and more expensive brands, they would barely touch.
I could easily do a commercial for Purina Cat Chow and mean it. It's the only brand that I ever buy anymore.

No Purina Cat Chow is a one of the worst quality cat foods on the market.
Cats are obligate canivores - they need meat. Purina cat chow contains NO meat. The protein and carbs come from low quality fillers like by-products, corn, wheat, flour, etc.
If you want your cat to be healthy, you need a food that contains mostly meat and a few added fruits and vegetables. Innova by far the best quality food on the market. Look at the ingredients:
Turkey
Chicken
Chicken Meal
Herring Meal
Potatoes
Chicken Fat
Egg
Turkey Meal
Natural Flavors
Apples
Carrots
Tomatoes
Cottage Cheese
Dried Chicory Root
Taurine
Herring Oil
Rosemary Extract
So, think about your cats health....which sounds better to you?

It is definately not a bad brand of cat food, you could do much worse. I would recommend Science Diet though. It is a little bit more expensive, but you will appreciate it more in the long run. Your cat will digest its food easier, and the litter box will stink less than if your cat was eating Purina Cat Chow.

The best brands of cat food have a predominance of protein. Cats (almost exclusively carnivores) need high protein diets to be healthy. Purina has a lot of corn meal fillers in the product, so not as good as a higher protein food, so you run the risk of the cat developing kidney problems and so forth later in life. Specialty brands like Hill's Science Diet, Innova, Eukanuba, etc. can be very expensive. Just make sure whatever food you choose is first and foremost high-quality protein.

Depends on which kind of Purina cat food you are talking about. ProPlan, is ok, Cat Chow is like feeding McDonalds to your cat.

Personally, Purnia's cat and dog food sucks. I like the cavy and livestock feed they have though.
Innova, Gold Solid, Eagle Pack are some great quality cat foods.
Chicken Soup For The Cat Lover's Soul is a great quality cat food at a fairly good price.

dont know of the name cat chow but i feed my cats on purina products and they love it and never had any problems with it,i would steer clear of 'iams' though as my vet has told me of problems associated with this and when i fed my (now departed) older female cat on it she had no end of stomach problems and had to be cut open to have her stomach looked at, changed her diet and she was fine.
