You need a seperate antenna on the roof. Freeview signals are much weaker than analogue ones.

A lot depends on the digital signal strength in your area. I have outdoor aerial but I also use a cheap indoor one without amplifier on my Freeview with my PC. The signal does break up more often but it's acceptable.
You can get a signal amplifier (see Argos shop or websites such as Maplin's). If you're lucky, Lidl will stock again (it comes round every few months) an indoor digital aerial and also separate booster at very good prices. Unfortunately, if you happen to live in a place where the signal is very poor, you could be stuck. Even an outdoor aerial may not be good enough. You have to 'suck it and see', as they say.

Guess it depends by your area and how much you want to spend. I'm using a small 'crappy' aerial on my TV, but it my freeview box works fine by passing the connection through a signal booster! It's been 6 years in 2 different places I've been doing this. By experience, only problem is reception can be static when there are thunderstorms.....

a) Check the freeview website to see what reception is like in your area.

b) Buy an indoor aerial designed to work with digital signals.

c) If you are still having problems, buy a booster box - I have seen this work well in a poor reception area.

I don't know the answer but I qam glad you have asked this because I would also like to know - so thanks!

I have bought a booster type indoor arial but the signal is still not good enough. You can get all the crappy free channels but it won't find BBC or Channel 4 or 5.

you can go on the http://www.freeview.co.uk/home web site and find out the signal strength in your area. you could also try an indoor digital ariel which work well with freeview. Argos give a 16 day moneyback guarantee so if it didn't help you haven't lost anything.
