guys, I want to know how to approach anyone like in the lift.. coz, I feel bored when I walk into the lift and people aren't talking to each other.. :)

Don't. The Elevator Rule is no talking with strangers. We enacted it years ago and it works fine. You should have been at the meeting.
The only exceptions are for floor requests and elevator-related stuff (i.e. "Oh crap, we are plunging to our deaths" or "Yes, Angelina Jolie, I have no problem with spending the day in here with you...let's pull the stop button.").
