Hi. I dont want to scare her or you, but if she has been dying it herself, there is a possibility that the dye she uses contains metallic salts which are incompatiable with other hair dyes. If she was to use one, her hair could physically sizzle and desintergrate. It is probably best to see a professional colourist who will probably pre-pig it then put a semi-permenant over it. With a semi-perm, your girlfreidn will not see any roots coming through as the colour will fade when the roots show.

If she were to do it herself, and it was compatible, there is a very high possibility the purpley bit wold go green after a few washes. This is because the undercoat of her hair i not the correct shde for the level. That is why a hairdresser will prepig. (change the undercoat before applying colour)

Safer that way. Not too expensive either! Make sure the hair salon does an incompatibility test!

If she doesn't want to grow it out, all she can do is to continuously
cut it till all the dye is out because, the cuticle of the hair opens when u tint it at will stay there till it's grown out or cut off, that's why it's called permanent color. She could have a stripper put on it but, it's very hard on the hair strands & very costly & it can be done by a student but there are no guarentee's that u will be able to lift that purple out of there.

In the same boat, myself the professionals salon told me i would have no choice but to actually naturally grow it out, as hair dyes damage the hair, it would be a case of that shes still causing the hair stress. Unfortunately, she will have to put up with exposed roots for the time being.

She should definitely head to a good hairdressers. I would suggest dyeing her hair all brown so as her current colour is growing out it won't be as noticeable. I would also advise to use condition treatments at least every month to stop the hair drying out.

As she has been dyeing it for so long, it would be best to let a reputable salon loose on it- she may be able to dye it very close to the original colour so that the roots don't show too much as it grows out.

Choose a brown dye similar to the natural colour, and dye with that. When that dye is growing out, you won't see the difference.

She can go to the hairdressers and tell them the sort of hair she has and they can probably die her hair a similar colour so it will grow out but in more of a subtle way. Hope I have helped :) xxx

She should DEFINITELY go to a good salon - she should not try to do it herself at home. With the purple streaks, it could all go disasterously wrong. At least advise her to get advice from a reputable stylist.

she should go to the hairdresser's !!
if she can't afford the full price, look for a hair academy, the students who do these things are normally at the advanced level and under supervision.
i had my hair cut for £9 yesterday :)

most hairdressers have a stripping option. its some kind of chemical that removes the dyes and products on your hair. prices vary so could be pricy, but its worth it.
