Look everyone in the military gets paid today, and some people get paid on the 15th of the month also. Don't believe anyone who says he does not get paid until after boot camp. As for the direct deposit, it most likely will not happen the first month. He will get paid in a check form, his drill instructors will take him to the pay commander and he can cash it, keep some for himself, and send money orders or western union you the money. You might even talk with him today, it will be short if he does so plan on long conversation. Make sure you have a pen and paper so you can write down important information he may give you.

The other thing is, you can call your bank and ask if there is any pending transactions, all government checks are sent to financial instituations the night before the 1st of the month. If they say it is not there, then he is not on direct deposit yet.

Sorry about that, but don't get mad at him it is not his fault. He will get paid, and send you some. I know it is scarey, but be patient.

Some banks deposit military paychecks faster than others. We have USAA, and my husband's pay went in last night. We used to have Bank of America, and it wouldn't come until later in the day on the first or 15th. Wait until later this afternoon, then call the bank if it's not there. As long as you are an authorized user on the account they should be able to look and tell you if it's pending or not. (If they don't know what to look for, the direct deposit will be coming from DFAS.) If they can't see it, then next time you talk to your husband tell him to ask to go to finance. Occasionally there is a glitch in the paperwork and things will be delayed. If that is the case though, he needs to go ASAP. I think I remember there being some sort of deadline to get pay fixed for the next month - I think he may have to get in there by the 10th or something. If all else fails, and you have power of attorney (which if you don't have, you need to get), and there is a military installation nearby, you can always go to finance yourself.

My husband also just said that you can call his chain of command to address the problem. Hopefully they've given you some sort of contact information. If not, call his recruiter and ask if they can help you. Good luck!

Oh, and ignore all the smart a** comments on here. I know what you're going through with your husband gone, and the last thing you need is unsupportive strangers making rude comments on your husband's profession. Being an Army wife is tough and can be confusing, but it will get easier once he's been in a little while and you both know more about the military and how things work.

First paycheck can take a little while. If he's been in the army for a week, it's possible that it'll all go on to his next paycheck. He should ask his platoon mates if they got paid yet. If most of them did, then he should take the issue to his leadership.

Unlike some posters think he should get paid while in basic. When my husband was in basic training we were told by his recruiter to expect him to not get his first check on time because of paperwork. He went in on Jan 21st and he got his first check on March 1st. (It was all that he was owed up to that point) So it may be the same thing with your husband. And if it wasn't deposited yet you probably won't get anything til at least the 15th. If he was getting it today it would've been deposited at midnight. (not when the bank opens for business)

What day did he join and where is he for Basic (Ft Jackson, Benning, Sill...)? He has to be assessed into the military pay system which can take a couple of weeks depending any many variables. It is very possible that his first check hits the account 4 to 6 weeks after he starts Basic. I'm sure that this isn't exactly what you wanted to hear, but it's accurate anyway.

I would not hold your breath. :( Unless he has an allotment set up then he will wait till boot is done prior to getting paid. He is getting paid but it is held till graduation. That was that way in 1985 and I doubt that they give pay out during boot, since there is NO need for cash while in boot. After all of that he will get paid on the 15th and 30th of each month.

It can take 6-8 weeks from reporting before pay hits the account. If it has been less than that, it may not appear until the 15th

when did he get processed in the army ? if it was in the last 2 weeks then his paperwork has not had a chance to get to the main pay branch of the army and I am afraid that you will have to wait until next month for 2 months worth of pay.

If he gets it today, most likely that means it is sent to his bank as of today and will post to the account tomorrow.
