simple if he asked or said that kind of words just ask him one question "Do you think its time for us to settle down?" then you'll know the answer for your question basing from the reaction that his going to make by the time you ask him that question

They sound like the legitiamte questions of a man who has not dated enough people in life to have a good idea of what's out there.
It sounds like he does not know if he is making the right choice and he is scared of making the wrong choice.
Has he dated many people in his life?
Maybe he is still a tadpole and needs to be tossed back into the pond.

why he wants something special for his G/F.
i think you can never trust such a man B/C if he findes a better case (even if he thinks so) he will leave you.
does he have anything special from other for you to select him?!

after such a question i would have told him "go molest yourself in the nearest bathroom, cos obviously u won't have anything else to do in the closest future" and after that i would never ever talk to him. he was bullshi't't'i'ng u and u were falling for it
