if this is the same as the c70 i think it is you need to turn ign off press down odometer reset buttonand hold down turn on ignition keeping button down untill service indicator flashes [aprox 10 secs] then release button within 4 secs this should work

I think it is lit up to tell you that there might be something wrong that needs to be checked.
Just been to a Volvo website at Google-found out that the SERVICE warning light comes on after every 10000 miles to remind the owner to bring the car for service. The light will remain lit until reset by the dealership. No wonder they don't want to service your car if it is being serviced elsewhere. Check out Google-Free owners manual for Volvo cars(name your model).

There are service reminder lights that only your dealership can take car of. They won't do it, unless there is a charge, because you don't get your car serviced there. It does depend on what year your XC70 Cross Country is, but either way its best to have your car serviced BY the dealership to avoid this in the future or just ignore the light all together. It does nothing to the vehicle.

Have you tried turning the key in the on position dont start engine just to on, then push down on the accelator to the floor three times and turn the key off. see if that turned the light off when you start your car.............

What year is it? Anything newer has too be done by the dealer because of the computer.
