Probably to make us sound less barbaric in the press.
Could you imagine the headline "Man Executed with Rusty Needle!"
It's all political, you know...

There are a few
considerations that maybe you might want to think about. One of these is
for the safety of the individuals administering the injection, or more
importantly the individual inserting the needles. Sometimes despite how
careful someone thinks they are being, one can receive a needle prick. Now
for the criminal, most would say no big deal. But what about the
individual responsible for inserting the needles? Any infectious or
unsterile needle would then be a hazard to this individual (a doctor or law
enforcement individual). There are all sorts of dangerous diseases out in
our world today and quite a few are transmitted through and/or by the use
of unsterile needles. I do not think you would want to unintentionally
injure any other individual associated with this process? To
unintentionally give this individual a disease, maybe even fatal, to
themselves? Also, if for some reason the lethal injection process did not
work the first time due to a bad needle (clogged or bent), the
administrators would again put themselves at risk for an additional needle
prick when they had to change out needles. So by using sterile needles, it
is a safety measure for the other individuals involved in the process and
not necessarily the criminal.
Makes sense ..doesn't it?

Because regardless if it sounds silly, a prisoner is sentenced to die by lethal inJection, not lethal inFection. Our constitution prohibits cruel and unusual punishment, which means the injection must follow all appropriate medical procedures, and prevent unnecessary suffering.
For those who answered above, the needles are not only pre-sterilized, but cleaned with alcohol before use. Also, the prisoners arm is swabbed with alcohol before the injection. This is what was being questioned.
Some crimes are so heinous, that a person forfeits all rights, including the right to life.

You are a weird person for wondering this... I thought I was the only one out here with this type of mind. Excellent question, and yes they are probably sterilised from somewhere. After all you can't give people a lethal injection and let them be at risk of aids and stuff now can you?
Great question!

I suppose its a very skewered sense of right and wrong they have..another strange one..and this is a bit disgusting..is that in some states prisoners who are about to be executed ARE allowed use the toilet, in some states they AREN'T. this is quite an unusual and un-necessary addition as obviously when someone is executed in the chair or so the body loses control of its functions.
Personally I'm against the death sentence for what its worth
I wonder how hygenic and comfortable Guantanamo Bay is come to think of it..for the people detained there without any proper trial or investigation.
HEY before any accuses me of being ANti-American I'm NOT! I have great American friends..they are good, positive people..unfortunately ,like with any group of people, there are extremists and I'm just on an anti-Bush soapbox!

Chuckle Chuckle, i know it seems crazy, why even bother right? Well all needles are sterilized and packaged and shipped out to hospitals, doctors and Clinics. So when they order the needle of the injection it has just been sterilized already. They wouldn't want to mess up and sent an unsterile one to a cancer patient in the hospital right?

Because the needles just get bought from the same places as hospitals and clinics - so they automatically come sterilised
