Mabe you need to read a little more history. Did we come into the world wars late, yes, America had a isolationist policy at that time. Let the rest of the world deal with their own problems and we would worry about our own. Didn't work. When we go in early to stop someone like Saddam before they get to powerful, we're considered war mongers. Which do we do to satisfy Europe?
As for the fighting ability of American soldiers, we fought the British for three years before France came in, and then all they did was use their Navy to keep British reinforcements and supplies from getting in. Cornwallis was already trapped and had previously been beaten at the Cowpens. Next the Americans fought the British again in the war of 1812, and won. Next the American Civil War,Americans fighting Americans, Antietam, 27000 causlties in one day, Gettysburg, 28000 in three days and on and on for 4 years. WWI Chateau Thierry- The French Army is retreating, the American forces stopped the German advance and took the area back pushing the German Army back. The German's never got any closer to Paris. Note that in this battle the American forces did not have suffient artillary till late in the battle when French artillary units were brought in line. They were outnumbered and outgunned. Bastogne, The cliffs at Normandy, Okinawa, Guadacanal, and on and on. The American soldiers record stands for itself. Remember in WWII we took the brunt of the fight against Japan by ourselfs while fighting alongside Britain in Europe. With all credit due to the herioc stand Britain made against Germany by herself, and the Aussie troops that fought with us against Japan. Great Soldiers ALL of them

If you were a better student of history, you would understand why the French became involved in the war of independence. You'd also understand why the U.S. entered both world wars late.
As far as your accusation that the U.S. Troops did not fight well once they entered, may I point out that it was the German Soldiers who coined the phrase 'Devil Dogs' based on the ferocity of the fighting of the U.S. Marine Corps.
As to why we're considered cowards, to be honest I have heard many negative things about America and Americans, but cowards is typically not among them. In fact, I believe that our reputation is to be a little crazy - a cowboy mentality.
We may have such a reputation because we have no natural enemy living anywhere near our borders. We're perceived as soft and not having the stomach for extended war. But I can assure you, this is different from being cowardly. And if so much as one foreign soldier steps foot on American soil, he'll learn quickly how brave Americans can be.

Personally I have no clue what you are talking about, and I suspect neither do you. However I suggest looking up a few things in our military history. Taffy 3 against the Japanese Center Force at Leyte Gulf where the Battleship Yamato ALONE outweighed all the American ships...and we won. The Alamo comes to mind. True we lost the battle but it ended up winning us the war. Colonel Joshua Chamberlain and the 20th Massachusettes Regiment at Little Round Top, Gettysburg.

Just be glad us cowardly yanks were there when you needed us.
As to our use of overwhelming firepower, it's simple, you don't have to write an artillery shells mother after a battle.
It takes less than an hour to make a shell, 9 mos to birth a son.
Seems like when someone is up to their poop chute in trouble, they scream for the US to step in and then spend the next century telling us how bad we are.
Oh well, at least you're not typing in Japanese.

American fighting men and women do fight from afar when we can, why bring a knife to a gun fight. We have great weapons that allow us to kill something without coming into range of their weapons. If we look to History all will see that American fighting men have gone face to face with the enemy just as much as any country. (WWII: Normandy, Okinawa, Wake Island. Constantly through the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, Granada, Panama just to name a few) In the most recent wars, against the Iraqis and now insurgents in Iraq, American’s are fighting street by street, but if we can we will do the job from a distance. Is that cowardice or just damn smart?

Oy, Wayne! Who's the coward here -- an American GI who goes to a war to rescue other people from a horrible fate, or some ignorant pissant who posts trolls on Yahoo!Answers from the anonymity of a computer in some library down under??

because people like you believe stupid stuff....the Brits are so tough? Look at the Falklands war....Americans took down the Japanese forces with very little help from anyone else (granted we had to nuke them to end it, but since they had decimated our Pacific fleet before we were at war with them it was necessary)...Americans were traditionally one of the last to join a fight...not out of cowardice but out of the expectation that others would stand up for themselves and do what was necessary to put down tyranny......the lack of action of Europe during WW2 brought that to an end. Since then our govt has decided to step in when/where we shouldn't...trying to prevent that kind of thing happening again...(I guess a lot of little wars is better than one big one). I am not saying that American soldiers/British soldiers are not tough/brave....I have nothing but respect for men and women in any armed forces.

Well, I guess it is good that we have the industrial and military might so that we may blast the heck out of anyone before we go in and scrape the bodies off the streets. Makes war much easier. Who wants a fair fight?

Get over it. Both world wars were not our fight til someone dragged us in and with out the USA giving food, weps and such long before 1941, England would have been a German colony. Actually, the Brits did the same in WW2 and in WW1 they were so stupid as to drag you aussies with them at Gallipoli.

It's good that you think that, but then again, let's look at Australia's contribution to the World Wars...
WW1 - Gallipoli. Enough said.
WW2 - relying on America to save you from invasion by the Japanese...
Good job.
