That's basically it yes.
Most religions are based on shame and threats. The threats are essentially along the lines of "if you don't worship my magic sky-pixie, you'll be sent to an eternity of being locked in a room listening to Barry Manilow records" or some other such diabolical torture.
And it's strange that christians themselves don't see the irony in following a "loving" and "forgiving" god that sends people to hell for no worse offense, than thinking for themselves...

In essence many do, yes.; you are right Doesn't make much sense to me either. Mine in particular believes that basically everyone will get what rewards they deserve. there is no burning in hell forever for only being a bad person for our short time on earth. But everyone will receive what they have earned. the clincher is that it'll more glorious then any could imagine. If you believe in God, then you believe he loves us. If that's the case then wouldn't he want to give us everything that he possibly could, depending on our on merits. Only a complacent uncaring God would send someone to torment forever.

Not mine. Or any other Pagan religion I'm aware of, I've never seen a Buddhist holding his enlightenment over somebody's head, or a Wiccan promising eternal damnation to non-believers.

well i think people better start reading there bibles with an open mind because i have yet to find anywhere in the bible that it tells us we go to heaven. it tells us of the kingdom of God and the Kingdom of hevan not in hevan.
have you forgoten what god said in Num 14:21 But truly, as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of Jehovah.
and we are told the kindom will be at Jerusalem Zec 14:8 And it shall be in that day, living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them shall go toward the eastern sea, and half of them toward the western sea. In summer and in winter it shall be.
Zec 14:9 And Jehovah shall be King over all the earth; in that day there shall be one Jehovah, and His name shall be one.
Zec 14:10 All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. And it shall rise and dwell in its place, from Benjamin's Gate to the place of the First Gate; to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananeel to the king's winepresses.
Zec 14:11 And they shall dwell in it, and there shall never again be a shutting in, but Jerusalem shall dwell safely.
could the following be nuclear wepons? i think it might be.
Zec 14:12 And this shall be the plague with which Jehovah will strike all the peoples who have fought against Jerusalem. Their flesh shall rot while they stand on their feet, and their eyes shall rot in their sockets. And their tongue shall rot in their mouth.

No it's not. I'm speaking for Christianity now. The Bible teaches us to save the unbelievers. Our mission is not to get to heaven but to see God's face, God the one we love, the one that loves us with all of HIm. We want to meet our Creator. We want to meet our protector, our healer, to meet our awesome God. God bless you. We don't come to you so we can show off that we are better than the unbelievers or to irritate you but we come to you (unbelievers) to tell you that we care enough for your souls, God cares and loves you enough for you and that He wants you near him, that He wants a fellowship with you. God is love, we walk in Christ's footsteps so we come to you with love. God bless you.
