I dont think it's worth paying £80,callout then parts and or labour on top as you can buy a new one for less than £200. these days especialy at places like asda or aldi's or other discount stores.
I have had a toshiba since 1992 and it is still working like new, i bought an HD ready LCD screen last year and the picture isn't as good as the old CRT tube,i am now considering getting a Samsung 32" crt hd ready tv as crt has a far superior picture quality to lcd or plasma! but if you wait till summer this year Toshiba is fetching out a flat screen CRT tv which canon invented 20 years ago but didnt go into production with as they dont make tv's, the system is called SED "stands for (surface-conduction electron-emitter display) Check out HDTV Solutions.com Hope i have been of some help.

How much did you pay for it?

Divide by 36 and look at the cost per month, as you say you have had the TV for 3 years. Compare the cost to rental, where repairs are free and an upgrade from time to time is a certainty.

Now add on the cost of call out plus any repairs to the price you paid, and do the same - divide by 36 - and compare to rental. Which one is cheaper? Is there any reason why you cannot rent?

If this still means you buy, then look at the costs over 3 or 4 years compared to rental and see which make/model offers the best value.

It depends on the size and type of TV, Is it CRT ,Flat screen or LCD, Check out price comparison sites like Kelkoo and pricerunner to see what the price of new tvs cost, ( I'm surprised that a Philips would go after 3 years ) then compare to the cost of repairing your tv, if its cheaper to buy a tv do that.

I'd buy new. TV Technology has moved on alot in the last 3 years and £80 just is not worth it.

She should be awarded for perfectly demonstrating the scientific process. Many think that science is defined by success, but in reality, it is just as much about failure. By creating this ultimately flawed experiment and testing her audience with its affects, she has eliminated a possibility about how to meet her goals the correct way. Since she had no ill intent, there is no need to punish her for a miscalculation.

Ohhhhhhhhh! There's your answer, don't ever buy anything made by Philips its all useless, don't get it repaired, get a nice japenese model, there always cheap, like Toshiba, they do some good quality stuff, never had a problem with mine.

Keep the Tube TV until it pegs out. I don't think the LCD and Plasma TVs are meant to last for more than seven years. .

Get a new one, esp if it's CRT, definitely get a new one. Once broken you never now how long it's gonna last you. Gotta move on with the technology.
