The general consensus is that green tea can help boost your metabolism, but there is no direct evidence showing that this is the case. For example, you might see a headline that says: "Green Tea Drinkers weigh 10 pounds less than non green tea drinkers". But let's think about that for a second. It may be that, on average, green tea drinkers are more healthy in other areas than non green tea drinkers, and so on average they'd weigh less. The same thing applies to vegetarians. So what I'm saying is it's not necessarily the green tea that's assisting in their weight loss. Consider this, though: green tea typically contains caffeine, and caffeine is a proven method of elevating your metabolism (it literally speeds your system up). In fact, most diet pills and so-called fat burners contain caffeine. If you're taking in a number of cups of green tea per day, then it's entirely conceivable that through caffeine intake alone you'd get some sort of weight loss effect whether it be through appetite suppression or metabolic improvement.

The ONLY way to lose weight is to use more energy than you consume. Fad diets are just that - fads.

You could lose weight by eating 800 calories (or, more accurately, KiloCalories) of pure fat and nothing else - but that wouldn't be very sensible or healthy.

Green tea is good because it doesn't need milk or sugar, but there is no magic fat burning ingredient - it's just very low in calories.

There is no easy way to diet (at least no easy way to diet healthily that will result in long term weight loss). Just eat less and exercise more - always ensure that calories burned exceeds calories consumed.

I know - I'm doing that now. I've lost around a stone in just over a month, though!
