Chavez's power is only as good as the price of a barrel of oil.
When oil was $18 a barrel, he was nobody. Now that it seems to hover in the $50's, he has a little more clout.
Once the bottom drops out of the oil market, again, he will find himself almost homeless. By that time, he will have ticked off everyone around him and all those in his own country who supported him.
It's a cycle and he is of no concern.

Just because Chavez called Bush a devil don't make him a threat. After all, Chavez never invaded any country or sent troops to interfere in foreign conflicts. Nor did Chavez have WMD's and nuclear weapons. So, I don't really see any point why he can be a threat to South America's stability, or to North America for that matter.

The Venezuelen People are a Free People. They vote as they see fit. Just like the Right-Wingers and ignorant Blacks ,poor whites, desperate mexican(Hispanics) did getting Bush E(Re-elected). Chavez is a man with Guts. Unlike our President.Any one who stands against a wicked Government is automatically considered a Threat. If this really bothers you, then take some time to really investigate the person that you vote into Office.

he's been given the power to rule by decree twice before, and after he'd achieved his stated objectives he handed power back to the elected representatives. it didn't seem to be a threat before, why should it now.
