Many children go through a phase of stuttering and grow out of it, but some have a lifelong problem with it as many of my uncles and cousins did. Go to the web site for The Stuttering Foundation of America at www.stutteringhelp.org and you will find a world of information to help you. There is a risk chart to help you decide if and when your child needs to see a specialist. They have referral lists of stuttering specialists all over the world. There are brochures that you can download and print out with tips for talking with someone who stutters. You can contact them for more information. There are videos online that will help, also.

Sounds like emotional stuttering. The child will more than likely grow out of it but you could mention it to your doctor at his next check up for your own peace of mind. Don't show a great amount of concern. Don't correct or hurry the child up. Be patient. Above all, don't let anyone make fun of him! He can't help it. My 4 year old granddaughter does it. The doctor says she is thinking faster than she can speak. Developmentally she will more than likely catch up within a few years. If she gets excited it gets a bit worse. Sometimes we can gently help her but for the most part we let it go it's course.

With your son, I think (just my opinion) that he is thinking about his ill grandma and worrying, the way that two year olds worry, about you. Be patient. I bet after a few more weeks it will start to subside.

I wouldn't worry too much. My littlt brother did when he was two for about a year, the doctor told my mom he would probably grow out of it, and he did.

i think its actually pretty common. my 5 year old cousin and my 4 year old neice both used to do it.
we stared of by telling her "calm down a little bit, slow your words down and tell me what you want" and not give her something until she calmed and slowed down.
sometimes i think they just get over-excited and can't ge the words out quick enough...
also.. if it continues you may have to consider a speech pathologist to correct it and teach him how to speak properly.
but give him some time first. :)

My record player used to stutter and I taped a quarter on the arm of it and that stopped it. Try taping a quarter on his head.
