My son started to wean himself off the bottle at about 2 1/2 to 3years old. In the end, rather than having a bottle, we found that a cup of warm milk and story at bedtime worked a treat..
Your daughter may just wean herself off when she is ready too. After all, if it comforts them and makes for a peacful nights sleep, whose complaining...

I understand and sympathize with your situation! I have an 18 month old who still needs her bottle at night...BUT it's been replaced with water instead of milk. She wanted nothing to do with big girl cups when she turned one, so we slowly phased the bottles out and I realized that she was fine as long as she had one in bed with her. It's her comfort thing. I worried about "baby-bottle rot" though. I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it. It's caused by sugary liquids being in the baby's mouth for long periods of time....like when they're sleeping. Milk is very sugary, actually and can cause their baby teeth to decay. It's very unpleasant and I didn't want my daughter to go through that. She knows now that she cannot have milk in a bottle, that's for big girl cups. She gets only water in bottles and she opts for the cups anytime but bedtime. Personally, I don't care if people think it "looks weird" for an 18 or 21 month old to have a bottle. It's your business....as long as it doesn't interfere with her health. I would recommend that you offer her water instead of milk in the bottle if you feel it's the bottle that comforts her at bedtime. If it's the warm milk...just put it in a cup, like some other moms suggested :) Good luck!

Both of my boys were weaned from the bottle at one, dropped a bottle a day over a two week perion until the only one was the bedtime. But since your is much older and is already using cups, try making the amount less and less and maybe try water, which will probably be less desireable. By the way, this will hinder potty-training, when that comes, the last drink should be as early as possible only give enough after that to quencha dry mouth/throat and no sugary drinks, it promotes thirst..

I took my childrens bottles away at 1 and they never got them back, I find it disturbing when I see 3 and 4 year old with a bottle in their mouth. At 21 months I think it is time for a sippy cup and get rid of that bottle.

My son just turned 12 months old and I took him to the doctor yesterday. He is also down to just a nighttime bottle. The doctor said just to give him a cup of milk. She said it is the same thing to him. I will just hold him and rock him as normal but substitute the cup for the bottle. I plan to start tonight.

my daughter weened herself from the bottle when she was a year old, she just didnt want it no more, which saved alot of trouble for me, 21 months does seem a little too old to still have a bottle.
