Now this would have been a tremendous fight between two of the greatest middleweights champions in boxing history. Both had great boxing technique's and both had sturdy chins too. Monzon was the taller of the two and had a great jab and a pulverizing right hand. Hagler seems to be the quicker of the two. Very even matchup in this fight. I believe that early on Monzon keeps Hagler at bay with his jab and right hands and that mid way through the fight Hagler coming on strong and winning some of the middle rounds. Monzon continues to throw that jab at Hagler who fires back combinations at Monzon. At the end of a brilliant fight the fight is declared a draw with a clamoring for a rematch. Great fight and great question.

I think Monzon was stronger. He literally lifted Benvenuti off his feet when they fought in -was it Rome? with power hooks. That said, Hagler had a better style. A better all around fighter, in phenomenal shape, always. Monzon smoked. Cigarettes. As well as in the ring. Hagler rarely rose to the occasion when fighting legends, i.e. Leonard, Duran...I think a famous Monzon wins. An unknown Monzon, close decision, either way. Who handles pressure better? Hagler did against Hearns, Monzon still untested here.. So Hagler in a split.

I think this could be a literal draw because monzon was a successful great champion like Hagler. If I picked a boxer to win ,I would choose Hagler in a split decision.

MONZON - W 87 (KO's 57) TF 100 - W pct 87% - KO pct 57% - wins over Benvenuti[2], Griffin{2}, Napoles, Valdes[2] and Briscoe - KO'ed none- #40 ranked punchers - #11 ranked fighter
HAGLER - W 62 (KO's 51) TF 67 - W pct 93% - KO pct 76% - wins over Minter, Hearns, Duran, Seales, Briscoe, Mugabi and Hamsho[2] - #35 ranked puncher - #17 ranked fighter
Both fighters would be in the top 3 in the all-time rankings at Middle wt. They both fought and defeated the great fighters of their day. I give Marvin a slight nod in a bout fought in America. Hagler in a 15 rd split decision.

Hagler would win this close. He would outwork outhustle and overwhelm Monzon with superior skills and conditioning both of these men are top 5 middleweights of all time.

I agree with bluedevil except for the result. Hagler guts out a close split decision win.

Monzon was a tough fighter, strong chin. Hagler was the same and has more power. Hagler by decision.

WOW!!
This would have been a great fight with both fighters in their prime.
I would pick Monzon to win but by a very slim margin.

At their primes, I see a draw, but Hagler might pull it out on a hair of a verdict.
