What does it matter what people think? As long as a dog is well loved and well taken cared of I don't care what the person does.. The only time I have an issue with dog clothes is when the dog has long hair and the clothes cause it to matt (tangle).. If your dog has long hair it doesn't need clothes and it is probably uncomfortable.. Keep its hair groomed short if you want it to constantly wear clothes.. (or harnesses for that matter) I only say this because I am a dog groomer and owners get mad when I inform them I must shave their dogs because they allowed them to matt.. Also I keep my dog in a purple mohawk... I get some snarky comments too.. But oh well.. My dog is well fed, well loved, and well groomed...Get the **** over it.. :) That's all you gotta say.. Edit:Pat makes a good point about treating your dog as a human... But I think as long as you train your pet it is ok.. Also a dog who does not want to wear clothes...Will not wear clothes... And after an owner finds a few dirty, chewed up tutus in the yard..They will get the hint...

I dont like doggie fashion for fashion sakes, but our parson has quite a thin coat and he needs a fleece-lined waterproof jacket in cold weather and a t-shirt in the house. We bought him a lovely jacket this year which is more fitted than the one we had previously which was a plain wax-jacket. Its a lovely red colour by the Yap company and it could be classed as stylish..but i hate the tartan look myself, and red looks much better on our pooch because of his colouring. He also has a black ' security guard' t-shirt for indoors during the winter. It was the one that fitted his personality best...not because it looked good

My pup has tartan coat... I heard that was in fashion this year??

anyway.. she has a t-shirt too and another of my dogs has a cashmere jumper (bought by my mother)... I did draw the line at a purple jumper with fake fur collar... it made my pup look like a little old lady.

So in answer to your question.. none of it is really for fashion's sake.. the coat is when she is cold and the jumper is occasionally worn around the house for fun.. (and to please my mum)... but I'd never let my dog out in public like it or I will become the stereotypical essex girl with chihuahuas dressed in the latest styles... eeeak!

Clothes for dogs can be very silly but as long as they are OK with it, it can be fun too. Depends how serious you are about keeping your dog in the latest fashion styles.

I wouldn't put clothes on a dog unless I lived in a really cold place and it wasn't safe to take them out without a dog jacket.
People who buy dogs clothing for fashion reasons are so sad!!!

I have an indoor (kennel) coat and an outdoor water-resistant coat for my greyhound. He wears it when it's cold because he doesn't have the body fat or thick coat of fur that many other breeds have to keep him warm.

The only other thing he wears is a collar!!

Purely functional.

Frankly, any other reason for dressing up your dog is just plain weird and I can't understand the appeal.

I don't think it harms the dog particularly (although I remove my dog's coat when he's off-lead as it would - slightly - restrict his movement otherwise), I just wouldn't waste money on something neither my dog nor I would benefit from.

To each their own though, I suppose.

I personally feel that dogs clothes for fashion sakes is cruel and pathetic....get a doll for gods sake....However,if you own a dog that does have very little body hair and shivers in the cold then a practical coat is acceptable...my dog has a great mass of fur but is a sad cretin when it rains...he wears a kind of pac a mac ( with I hasten to add the stupid hood REMOVED) and he is really happy to be out and about in it..no silly fluffy padding cos he is warm enuff..,my other dog don't care one jot about the weather and doesn't wear one. I think if the breed needs a coat thats fine...a practical coat..not a silly thing with toggles and hoods and pockets and I think it is downright cruel to put a breed in one if it has adequate hair just for fashion sakes.

i put my dogs in clothes, they are both small and in the winter they are cold, they shiver less and are more likely to want to go outside to go to the bathroom if they are in their sweatshirts. I have some i bought at stores like sweatshirts and army jackets but i have made things too, out of fleece so they fit right. So no i don't think it's silly sometimes it is just needed on a small dog.

My miniature schnauzer is 12.5 years old, so not a young thing, so when it is cold, I let him wear a little tartan fleece coat or a red coat with fleece lining. Just for when it's really cold.

I used to have these hilarious outfits for him, a bumblebee suit, a cow suit, a strawberry suit, and batman for halloween, but he would be so miserable in them because he knew it made him look like he had escaped from an asylum. So, I don't let him wear that stuff anymore because he seems to mind so much, but he doesn't mind the normal little jackets, just for when it's that extra bit nippy.

I used to make him wear the outfits just for a laugh... it would really crack me and my friends up and he would stand there liek a statue with the expression "oh please, kill me now, just kill me".

I dont dress my dog up but she as got a coat for the cold weather. She gets very cold as she hasnt got a thick coat. But she only wears it if its very cold because I dont agree to dressing dogs up just for fun.her coat is a cord with a fur lineing and it as a little hood on.I think if we are cold we put something warm on so why should she go cold. But like I say it as to be very cold for her to wear it.its best if they keep themselfs as warm as they can other wise they loose there own system to cope with every day living.you can get different coats these days other than the old tartan. But I certainly dont dress her for fashion sake thats not fair on her.

I only dress my dogs when the weather gets cold. I have 3 bichons and their fur is nice and full during the winter, but it still doesnt keep them warm. It gets cold in Indiana and they need to stay warm. You could always make your own clothes for your dogs, or buy online.
