It's very pathetic. We Americans, keep on bragging that we're having the most advanced military technology in the whole world. Yet, our technology can't even help us with simple identificatication of friend or foe?...

Ok who was the genius that said the Air-force flies the A-10s not the army. Genius unless thever been decomissioned recently, the Army operated those still.

On the point, I cannot tell truthfully because I personally dont trust the BBC, there could have been transmissions between the Brit, and the yanks, and the brits coulda told them they dont have any forces there. Then sorry mate.

But if they just wern't responding, well the Yanks fucked up bad, and just wont admit it, and of course as with all military mistakes itll be well covered up.

Well first of all the American Army does not fly A-10's. But the Air Force does. Fratricide is a sad occurance but it DOES happen. We go to great lengths to prevent it, but a combat environment is a chaotic and confusing place. No I do not find it shocking. If it makes you feel any better an American F-16 took out a group of Canadians once in Afghanistan. Former NFL star Pat Tillman was killed by his own troops there as well. It happens, its part of war, we do our best tro prevent it. Get over it.

Typical British.

Blame the Americans but cover-up your own part in the tragedy.

When are you going to admit that the British told that A-10 pilot _twice_ that there were no friendly vehicles in the area?

When the US pilot warned the British command post that he could not positively identify the vehicles as hostile - why didn't the British double-check the locations that had plotted for their units?

But it is so much easier to blame the Americans instead of admitting that you screwed up.

Remembering that everyone is under tremendous stress in a war zone there comes into being a mental condition that is described as the 'fog of war.' Rationality often gives way to basic instinct and mistakes are made. Try as you might this will always be a factor in a war zone.

I did not read this, However our sports heroes can't even throw a ball to the right receiver. How do we think that the military can determine with 100% accuracy who to shoot. I think we all need to remember that we are Human! Mistakes happen. Everyone makes mistakes. The technology that is in development is trying to reduce those mistakes. You will never be able to eliminate mistakes until you remove the Human element!!!!

There are instances of friendly fire incidents. They are regrettable. When in war, especially flying ground support missions, you have to make split second decisions.

This one was poor.

That pilot has sense been addressed and the issue is being resolved.

If you're trying to use this against the US Military, that's fine. Just be man enough to say it.

Yes shocking, but without offending, I hope, this is what war is all about. There is no rules in combat and this I am afraid is what its going to be like until the bitter end, which I think will not be for a very long time. Home by Christmas ring any bells.
