Hello...Even though you have not been very specific about what you are trying to protect this vulnerable adult from, I can tell you that there are specific laws regarding the rights of the vulnerable adult. If you suspect any type of abuse, and are a mandated reporter[someone who works at a licensed care facility,or for a company providing services to the individual] you are required by law to report any and all abuse you have direct knowledge of. The abuse does not necessarily have to be of a physical nature. Intimidation, financial exploitation and neglect are also abuse. Every county has a common entry point [C.E.P.] where abuses are reported. From here the proper authorities are sent to handle the problem. Law enforcement and social service organizations take very seriously the issues of the vulnerable adult. Even if the person is not under the care of any facility, steps will be taken to protect the individual. Unfortunately, a lot of these people seem to fall through the cracks and wind up victims in one way or another. If you are caring for someone who is a vulnerable adult, I applaud your efforts. If you see abuse, step forward, we have a duty to protect the less fortunate in our society. Good luck to you and take care..............

Keep harm and abuse from happening to them. If it is, report it to the State's Adult Protective Service Department.

Contact your states Agency on Aging program. They will be able to provide you with a list of resources and will be able to help you find an elder advocate and an ombudsman (just about the same thing) If you are dealing with a care home. I suggest be relentless in your expectation that they treat your loved one with the utmost respect. That is what they are trained for... to care for those whom we are not equipped to give proper care to.
And I mean relentless.
If you have someone with you in your home, find someway to monitor the activity of the other caregivers who are assisting.
If you suspect anything do not waste anytime, do not worry about hurting any ones feelings, just contact the proper authorities and let the pieces fall where they may.
