before i could go on to the actual answer i cant help but just clear out a few things ! im sorry but you really wont get my point unless you know a few things first ~~~~~~
well the guy above me is DEFINETLY confused ! no offense but india is nothing of what u imagine it to be !! when you imagine india you guys imagine villages , clay huts ,wells and god knows what else ! but this is nothing near it...there are less then 2 % areas like this (unless you are talking of a hundred years ago !) the rest are exactly like what your nieghbourhood looks like ! he also mentioned that lack of evening entertainment leads people to have s*x !! umm... hello..... there is hardly a home here without a computer let alone a tv !! iv seen people on the roadside with i pods there !! get the generall picture it is not what u think !! now that u know what ur speaking of we can get to the actual answer~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
yes kamasutra is popular in india....... but not for the reason you think it to be , it is a thousandfold more popular in the US then it is here , but yes everyone knows about it ! yes ebby said that indians were conservative therefore they wouldnt speak openly about it ~~ nothing of that sort , everyones heard of it , no ones embarresed and some people are actually proud of the fact that one of the most sold books is written in india ! an interesting figure is that the book is sold to more foreign tourists then indians themselves ! lol ! (and NO ebby we do not worship it as a manual !!! puhlease !

Its probably more popular outside India, probably because of "conservative" nature of Indians, in general. We have no way of knowing as Indians themselves would hardly talk about it, let alone acting it in public.
However, the speed of reproduction in India, plus the lack of evening intertainments in the rural area, se* would seem is practised friequently and widely. Wheather they do it in Kama Sutra style or not, is difficulat to say.
