Thanks donttell - I love massages, shopping, weekend getaways, etc. I do those things too. Don't get me wrong guys, I have a life.

It just seemed crazy today after working all day, then getting on here and answering questions and PM's. It's fun though. I really like you guys.

Yep stinkypan - therapists get issues as well. Some people mistakenly idealize therapists and see them as superhuman. This is not correct.

Even therapists can develop issues as well.

when getting new Friends make it clear you cannot be a therapist in your non business life Or describe your profession a bit differently to new people such as Career counselor etc...something that's included in your therapy work but not exclusively so.
Find friends that are not energy vampires.Reconnect w old friends and/family.
Socialize with other people from diverse groups-do stuff on your own a bit also to recharge.Shopping/ get a massage/get a shampoo/hair trim/ exercise in whatever method you prefer.
Fun classes or meetings-try crafts/book circles/political group meetings of your interest, etc.
Try a getaway of 1 or2 days not too far but change scenery.
I know a vice versa incident where some counselors start sharing their prob's w me due to my (somewhat)similar profession! Ha ha I had to "interview" the next one sharing that I didn't like that experience and didn't want to go thru it again.

Sorry to give you trouble about your friend, but that's not very friendly to unload all her issues on you is it? She's getting her therapy for free? Frankly it seems to me you are doing a wise thing seeking council for what you are experiencing.
What do you think you gain by giving your friend free therapy? What does she gain and is it in your best interest?
I would bet it might be helpful for you to have someone to talk with and lay out all your issues!

I generally wouldn't say that liking to help people is generally indicative of losing it. At least, I hope it isn't, because it doesn't bode well for humanity if it is. Maybe the fact that you come on here voluntarily is a *good* thing because it means you like your job :-P

Yep, you need to broaden your horizons! Join a class if you can't decide what to do ----and make sure to avoid sociology in any form while you are at it! Try beading or a book club!
