We have an eight year age difference and it seems to bother him, but I don't have a problem with it and neither do my friends and fanily. What do I do? Just be friends and wait for him to come around?

(Frustrated sigh) OK, I'll try to keep myself busy and forget about him. ...Thats going to be hard though because he calls me if he hasn't seen or heard from me after a few weeks.

8 years is not terrible! I am 5 years older than my hubby. My sister in-law is 10 years older than hers. It's only an issue if you make it one. Are you sure that is not something else and he's using age as an excuse?
I would say to let it be for now, do not push things. You do not want to scare him away! Continue being there for him, be his friend but DO NOT stop your life waiting for him to "come around".

are you underage? Because that might be the issue he has. Legally he could get into a lot of trouble if anyone even assumes anything sexual is going on, so he may want to steer clear for that reason.
If you are of age, then maybe he doesn't know if you guys can relate on the same level. If you feel like its possible just sit down and have a talk with him. Explain how you feel and ask him to tell you how he feels. If its just the age thing holding him back then I guess you gotta move on because to you it might not seem like a big deal but if its a problem to him then you don't really have a chance.

Don't wait for him. If he has that big of a problem then you're looking at the wrong guy. I know couples that are 10 years apart and are very happy. It's not age that maters, it's how you feel about that person. If he really has feelings toward you then he will get over the difference. Good Luck

There might not be any coming around sorry to say. I was dating this guy for a while and for some reason we thought we were the same age and he ended up being 22 and I was 17. oops. I talked to my parents and they were fine with it, but he "needed time to think about it" and he didn't talk to me again until about 6 months after I was 18 and already had a new bf.

why did he get into this relationship with you in the first place if he knew that there was an age difference........this is something that you are gonna have to let him come to terms with on his own

Ask him this: if he's 80 and you're 72, what's the problem?

I would not push this issue, just wait it out, if it is meant to be, it will be.
