It's the reception, food, travel, dresses, flowers, cakes that are the expensive part of getting married, you know all the frills of the day. You could get married in both a church and a registry office very cheaply, it's the party afterwards that will cost you.

Sparkley is right. You could have a church wedding for $100 or a garden wedding for $100,000 or the other way around. The expense is mostly in the reception.
