press Ctrl Alt Delete
then look at applications which will tell you what you are running....if everything here is something you have opened then leave it as it is ...
then in the task manager task bar click process...there it will give you a list of everything your computer is currently processing....be very careful about ending any of theses processes some of them are essential but if you spot something which is obviously not meant to be there find where it is on your computer and delete it from there.

First I would check add/remove programs, see if there is any thing in there that you know you did not install, then run msconfig, click start up tab, what you will find is abbreviated start up items ticked, again anything suspect and not sure of Google it to see if it is suspect, while in msconfig look under the services tab, at the bottom of the window tick, hide all Microsoft services, you will be left with all non Microsoft services that are starting, again anything suspect untick them, Google the service you not sure of see if it is harmless or not, then I would run all available anti virus/add ware/spy ware etc, you may have see if they find anything also.

Press ctrl/alt/delete to open Windows Task Manager. There are 5 tabs to tell you what is going on. Processes tells you what is running right now.

If you go to Snapfiles.com you can get a 30 day trial of Security Taks Manager. It not only tells you whats running, but gives it a rating.
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/securitytask.html - Security task manager

Also, use Ccleaner, use the ISsues tool and the Cleaner.
http://www.ccleaner.com

And run an anti virus and an anti spyware in safe mode;
You may need to switch off System Restore as back up files may be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run your anti virus and anti spyware in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

You need all three anti spyware programs as they all do different jobs;
http://www.ewido.net - AVG(Ewido) anti trojan.
http://www.lavasoft.com - Ad-Aware SE Personal anti adware
http://www.safer-networking.org - Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware. Use the Teatimer settings to protect Internet Explorer, and the Immuniser to stop malware getting on your pc.

Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.

press CTRL+ALT+Delete - then select "task manager" from the options.

From this panel select "processes" tab, and you can see everything thats runnin. If you click on the "cpu" column header then it will order the items in what is using the most processor power, and choose to stop them if you like. Be careful though!

there is many assets you're able to do. i could use disk freshen as much as clean off each and every of the flies you do no longer desire anymore. next i could run advert-ware and secret agent-ware classes to get those style of flies out of my gadget. Then i could do an virus test to establish if any virus on my pc. ultimately, i could do a defrag to help speed my gadget up.

Go to Task Manager and look at all the .exes, or go to Run > MSCONFIG and see what has taken over your PC. That is assuming you are running Windows.

another free tool that might help is Task Patrol Personal
