Jesus when asked how to pray, He gave us the Our Father. Where does the Hail Mary come from?
Luke 1 Mary calls herself a lowly servant. She did not accept prayer or praise.
Mary responded,
“Oh, how my soul praises the Lord.
47 How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!
48 For he took notice of his lowly servant girl,
And she never sinned??
Romans 3:23
for ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
And should we pray to Her unless she is G-d??
We beleive Jesus is G-d and deserves prayer.
But G-d says only pray to Him....
1st commandment "You must not have any other god but me."
2nd says make no IMAGES of anything in the heavens or earth. ...why do we pray to statues and crosses?
Does the Catholic System make it impossible to keep the 1st and 2nd commandments??
And ultimately...where does it suggest or even hint to pray to Mary?

Meg, you have a messed up Catholic version of the Bible. ANd James is talking about us to pray for each other, not Mary. She is not mentioned in the book of James.
Susan....Where exactly do I say pagan? I say I want them saved...I would simply like to be more confident in their salvation because I love them and want them in heaven.

Somewhere in the middle, in a place most people often overlook.
It's right around the area where one of the authors admits that there's actual dolts in the world who follow the book word for word, even though it was written centuries ago and some of the stories read like fairy tales. apparently he goes on to mention that there are grown morons in the world that haven't done any real research on the validity of the book in itself, yet they continue to argue over the content because they just don't know any better.

Screwed up Catholic Bible?
From the original King James Bible, with strong's concordance numbers:
Luk 1:28 And2532 the3588 angel32 came in1525 unto4314 her,846 and said,2036 Hail,5463 thou that art highly favored,5487 the3588 Lord2962 is with3326 thee:4675 blessed2127 art thou4771 among1722 women.1135
Comment: God's unmerited favor is defined as grace. Due to original sin, no one since Adam had ever before been born wth grace. That's why Mary was blessed among women, and "full of grace".
Luk 1:41 And2532 it came to pass,1096 that, when5613 Elisabeth1665 heard191 the3588 salutation783 of Mary,3137 the3588 babe1025 leaped4640 in1722 her846 womb;2836 and2532 Elisabeth1665 was filled4130 with the Holy40 Ghost:4151
Luk 1:42 And2532 she spake out400 with a loud3173 voice,5456 and2532 said,2036 Blessed2127 art thou4771 among1722 women,1135 and2532 blessed2127 is the3588 fruit2590 of thy4675 womb.2836
Luk 1:43 And2532 whence4159 is this5124 to me,3427 that2443 the3588 mother3384 of my3450 Lord2962 should come2064 to4314 me?3165
Regarding the passage from James, since when has Mary not been considered one of us?

Mary has no claim to fame except being called just like you or me. In Jesus Christ there is no great ones we are all one and equal. A pope decide a few hundred years back a lot of things about Mary any reasonable person would never believe about her. The Catholic church says whatever the Pope says is God's Law. These things do not have to be in the Bible. Eatting fish on Fridays is not really a lot different. One day it's not Ok and the next it is OK or calling a Priest Father; Matthew 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
See it doesn't matter to them what the Bible says and that is why they do not like people reading or confusing them with the facts of the Bible it is what the church says not the Bible.

Before Jesus Christ died for our sins and opened the gates of heaven there were no saints in heaven. Therefore there are no Old Testament writings that would mention them.
Very few of the new Christians died before most of the New Testament was written. Therefore there is little in the Bible about asking saints to pray for us.
However the last book of the Bible does talk about the saints in heaven praying.
Revelation 5:8: Each of the elders held a harp and gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of the holy ones.
Revelation 8:3-4: He was given a great quantity of incense to offer, along with the prayers of all the holy ones, on the gold altar that was before the throne. The smoke of the incense along with the prayers of the holy ones went up before God from the hand of the angel.
The Holy Spirit guided the early Church in many things not explained in the Bible including how does the Body of Christ (believers) living on Earth relate to the Body of Christ (saints) living in heaven. We are still one Body.
Catholics share the belief in the Communion of Saints with many other Christians, including the Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal, and Methodist Churches.
The Communion of Saints is the belief where all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When you die and go to heaven, you do not leave this family.
Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints, you, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary the mother of Jesus, and Mother Teresa.
As part of this family, you may ask your family and friends living here on earth to pray for you. Or, you may also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Andrew, or your deceased grandmother living in heaven to pray for you.
Prayer to saints in heaven is simple communication, not worship.
With love in Christ.

I totally agree with everything you wrote. And I have no idea where that poster got the idea you hated Catholics. Oftentimes, people bring their own hostilities and issues and this is an example.
I have been told that Catholics pray to Mary because they believe she has some sway with Jesus and God. This is based (supposedly) on the miracle of changing water in to wine.
At first, Jesus did not "want" to do this, but Mary pressed Him and He relented (because she asked). Therefore, Mary has more authority then we do and can intercede on our behalf. Please know that I have no idea if this is true, but it makes sense......especially if you ignore all the other Bible verses you quoted......
I do not believe Catholics pray to statues. They pray to the spirit of the person represented by that statues....much like Mary, they think the Saint has more pull then we do and can intercede on our behalf.....as if Jesus' intercession wasn't good enough.....
This is odd to me.

Praying to Mary is not Biblical. It is a Catholic church invention.
* Beginning of the exaltation of Mary, the term "Mother of God" first applied to her by the Council of Ephesus 431.
* Prayer directed to Mary, dead saints and angels, about 600
* The Rosary, mechanical praying with beads, invented by Peter the Hermit 1090
* Assumption of the Virgin Mary (bodily ascension into heaven shortly after her death),
* Mary proclaimed Mother of the Church, by pope Paul VI 1965

Partly, the practice of praying tor the dead is from the Book of Macabees...which has been excised from most versions of the "Protestant" Bible.
"Pray" does not mean "worship."
Mary said "all generations will call me Blessed" and "my soul magnifies the Lord" (Luke 1:46). Catholics think this is significant. Catholics don't think heaven is a "dead" place. Catholics believe people in heaven are alive. (Mat 19:29, 25:46, Mat 10:17-22, Mk 10:30, Lk 10:25-30, Lk 18:18-30, Jn 3:15-16). We see Lazarus alive by Abraham's side (Lk 16:22). And at the transfiguration we see Moses and Elijah alive beside Jesus. (Mat 17:3) There seems to be a lot of conversing in Heaven in Revelation (i.e. Rev 4:10). The Church thinks heaven is a lively place with lots of singing and stuff. Jesus opened the gates to Heaven. "Graves of the dead were opened and they went into town to preach the Gospel." (Mat 27:52). Jesus said "Now he is a God not of the dead, but of the living; for to him all of them are alive." (Lk 20:39-40)
Finally, if you believe that the Bible is the sole source of God's teachings, and you disregard tradition and oral history and other historical writings, we'll simply have to agree to disagree.
(Where is it written in the Bible that Baptists have to bake a casserole upon the death of a member of their Congregation? It doesn't...per se...but the practice is interpolated from Biblical writings and traditions that deal with charity and compassion.)

It's no use preaching to the deaf. Catholics obey their Church, not the Bible. Their church, their pope, and Mary is their authority, not the Bible or GOD. They ignore God to give Mary all the adoration, prayers, and praise. She gets all the extra brownie points, not God. They're busy with their rituals and chants to Mary every Sunday, so they really don't have time for the Bible -- thus keeping them illiterate on what the Bible really says.

I don't know. I'm christian, and i pray to Mary. But i don't know were the prayer came from. I guess people just feel compelled to pray to the mother of our saviour.
Where in the bible does it say to pray to any of the saints? it doesn't (at least not most of them anyway), but we still do.
