Should I become Christian, Buddhist or Pagan ?

Question

I am really confused because I feel like a need spirituality in my life, but I don't know which religion to choose between Christianity, Buddhism, and Paganism. I currently don't really have a religion, I don't think any of them are wrong or right, but I would prefer to just pick one a stick with it, which is why I read up on a ton of religions and came up with these three as the ones I liked the most.

1. Which religion do you reccomened ?
2. Why do you reccomened it ?


About Me:
-My parents are agnostic, so they are pretty much neutral about all religions, they are AGNOSTIC not ATHEIST just to clear up any questions.
-I am a 21 year old college student

Christianity has produced charities, built hospitals, orphanages, and helped millions of people. When there's a disater, Christians are the first ones there. One example: When Hurricane Charlie hit Florida in 2004, the Southern Bastist disaster relief was there in no time to provide 1500 meals twice a day in Wauchula, FL alone to anybody who wanted it (and that's a much bigger feat than it sounds!) The Mennonites used their vacation time to come to Florida to help repair people's houses at no charge.

Christians include men of science like George Washington Carver and Sir Issac Newton. Artists like Michelangelo , Raphael, and Grandma Moses. Men of music from Handel to Johnny Cash. Writers like J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Philanthropists, like J.D. Rockefeller and Milton S. Hershey. People who risked their lives and their fortunes to help others live in safety, like Corrie Ten Boom, Oskar Schindler, and Harriet Tubman.

There are all the unsung heroes of Christianity, like street mission workers who help the homeless, Amish people whom are the first in line at a blood drive, or a volunteer at a Hospice who does Christ's work. There are untold numbers of them everywhere, but you'll never read about them in a newspaper or see them on the 6 O'Clock news because people only want dirt instead of roses.

When you think of our religion, please, don't dismiss all of Christianity for actions by misguided Christians 1000 years ago during the crusades or because of charlatan televangelists. There is oh so much more to it than that! It is a beautiful religion when people really APPLY it! Claiming to be a Christian is not enough.

Christianity: I would not choose Christianity. It is the religion I grew up with and from personal experience I can say that it is a waste of time. It is simply a hodge-podge of thou-shalt-nots written by people who had severe social interaction deficiencies.

Buddhism: I find Buddhism fascinating because it is more of a philosophy of life than a religion. It doesn't really have a central God.

Paganism: I assume you are talking about something like Wicca or something similar. Because neo-paganism is relatively new to western minds as a few decades in the mainstream as opposed to thousands of years of the other two you will have some problems when needing to be taken seriously. But, it is the most fun of the three. (No, you don't have to dance naked under the moon but the option is there if you want to)

I was raised Jewish but never really believed in the arrogant jealous God. the God in the new testament is better, but i think if you read between the lines, the message is the same in all religions. whether it be Chris,Jud, Islam, or even Buddhism. it's all about just living a good life being loving to everyone and not fearing death.

you should just go on Amazon and buy a bunch of books, just search religion. I highly recommend "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying".


if you feel that there is a difference in the main messages of all the main religions, then you should do some more reading. if you look past the marketing bullshit you'll see that the message was the same. think about what a religion is. its some sort of spiritual belief in a higher entity, like a parent in a way, with some sort of promise for the afterlife. sprinkled with some morals on top

there are few religions that dont believe in a god but are at the same time moral and spiritual. daoism and original "Theravada" Buddhism that emphasizes only the Buddha's words. the Buddha was an early philosopher who found the way to rid yourself of suffering. so you can be truly happy and enjoy life. isn't that what you want?

you have to accept the fact that to answer the question "Why?" (which is the reason why religion is everywhere in human culture)
so you have to accept that there is no answer to the question. and if there is, then we just can't comprehend it, so don't stress.

Why become entangled in that which only serves as a stepping stone to higher things? All the religions the world over are in error, if you become apart of those group mindsets you will take in their limitations which will be an obstacle to further growth. Religion will only rob you of what you can become. I have a question if you need a sense of spirituality in your life, why do you believe that these religions are actually spiritual? Perhaps if you draw within yourself to experience the innate spiritual nature within you, then you won't need a religion, having found something so much more greater. I would stay clear of religion and seek to know thy self. Furthermore religions are traditions and ritualistic and for the must part so far from what their source was in the ancient world. Really imo religion serves it's purpose but for me it is worthless although their scriptures are good because they all speak of the same reality, the inner kingdom.

Don't really get the reason why you think you need a religion to be spiritual. I never had a religion but found things on my own.

I would suggest a study and belief before you make any decision about becoming Christian (or anything else). I choose Christianity because I know that the BIBLE was written over 1600 years by more than 40 writers and I still believe that there are no errors and complete consistency in it. GOD's SON was born of a virgin, lived as a man, was sinless, was brutally tortured and murdered for our sins. HE died so that we might have an opportunity to be in Heaven with HIM. I believe that you should look for a non-denominational group of Christians in your area that would study the BIBLE with you. I would gladly find a group for you if you are interested.

Study these scriptures and see what you think. To become a Christian:
HEAR - Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?
BELIEVE - In Mark 16:16, Jesus said “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”
REPENT - Luke 13:3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.
CONFESS CHRIST - 1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
BE BAPTIZED - Romans 6:3-4 do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
CONTINUE TO BE FAITHFUL - Jesus said in Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.”

For me deciding what I religion was right for me was a complicated process. It's very important to look at each one objectively, but also to look into your heart and see what feels best. Also, look at exactly why each of those religion appeals to you. If you want to be Christian so you can be like your friends, or in the mainstream, not because you believe that Jesus is your true salvation, then that would be wrong for you. Similarly, if you want to be Pagan because it's rebellious, and not because you revere nature, then that would be wrong.
I'm Wiccan, but I chose that after a great deal of thought and consideration. Eventually I decided that it wouldn't be "converting" as much as realizing what I actually believed. Hopefully it can be that way for you too.

Well you need to do some serious soul searching and research because if you think there is no difference in between the Christian, Buddhist, Pagan or Muslim religions you are quite wrong. I hope you wouldnt make your choice on such an important issue from info you get at Yahoo Answers. Get out and do some real life hands on research yourself.

u should read many books about all the religions...u can read AL-QURAN, Bible n others...i'm a muslim...it had been proven that the all the fact inside Al-Quran are true...but, all religion want their follower to do good things..all religion teach their follower to be a good person...so, u should decide ur own religion...for me, i already found it...i admit that Islam is not an easy religion compare to the others...because islam has a lot of rules that should not be break by those who believed in islam...but then ,when i think about all the rules, i realised that all the rules bring profit and benefit...actualy islam teach to us to make this world a peace place...but many of the follower didn't hold on to what they had been taught by islam....so, good luck in choosing ur religion...=)

be a naturalist and be yourself why adopt foreign religions which you can study without selling your soul to the devil sort of speak.
I've studied most of them but Wicca and satanism and I'm not joining any religious groups for good reasons so make up your own mind maybe in deference to your parents you should see what Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud and Voltaire had to say to name a few that seem to support the more agnostic or atheistic viewpoint ..good luck to you ! also myself out of the three you mentioned first I prefer the methodical side of Buddhism before it became a religion as in present day because it actually helps one attain the goals of the other mainstay religions rather than just saying do it or else.

Job one should be, don't ask this kind of question on here. You'll get way too many answers and you'll be even more confused! Your best bet is to read up on the three you've narrowed down and see what concepts or ideas appeal to you most. I would recommend that you find a religion that allows you to be you and doesn't restrict your thinking. Any one that makes you feel the best if the one for you.

Sorry if this isn't rigid enough for you but I think your beliefs are very personal and you shouldn't allow anyone to sway you. Just do what you feel is best for you. It's a great sign that you're looking for spiritual guidance so, whatever you pick should suite you just fine.

It depends entirely on what you think suits you.

If you like the community vibe that Christianity tends to give off with Church and such then go for that (of course you need to decide which denomination you go for)

If you're not really into the whole "Almighty being" thing but think that reincarnation sounds plausible then Buddhism's probably your bag.

Paganism's a bit of an umbrella term for several religions. You'd have to look into individual religions there to decide. A lot of them a Mother Earth/polytheistic type religions. If you dig Greek mythology and would like to take it a step further then you'd probably be pretty happy there.
