Just because they aren't outwardly affectionate doesn't mean they don't like you or that they don't appreciate their home. They just don't show it in the same way that a dog would. You can't force them to sit on your knee if they don't want to, but you could take advantage of moments when they are relaxed & sleepy to gently sit down beside them & stroke them. Cats are exceptionally sensitive and they pick up your mood & your 'vibes' so maybe they sense your frustration. Try to be really relaxed with them. It's a challenge to win a cat's affection & loyalty which is what makes them such fascinating creatures. Accept them for what they are & enjoy them.

You are doing something right otherwise the cat's would not come home, they would find another owner to take them in.
They usually do not like water, and I have the scars to prove it, but obviously your cats let you bath them.
Cats are very independant animals, I took one in, and he, very gracefully, would bring me pressies of worms and mice he also invited several of his friends to come and stay, but I cannot turn any animal away, I just check (by putting a collar on with phone number) that it has not got an owner, if I get a phone call I do not take them in otherwise they have a home for life, my last cat even at the age of 29 years refused to leave until my dog died. The vet told me that it was the dog keeping him alive, and asTiggy was here first he was not going anywhere, after all he was here first so why should he depart before the dog l could go on forever telling you why cats are NOT loyal, but always remember you gave those cats a good and loving home, and you will never own them, A cat will ALWAYS own you, if it does not like living with you it will find a new home.
Keep up the good work, you are doing a great job.And by the way my Tiggy never got on my lap,

Why? Because they are cats, and this is what they do---when they know they can get away with it. Just keep on doing what you are doing (minus the baths), do NOT try to force them, do NOT even try to pick them up, do NOT try to get them to come to you or sit on your knee. In other words, other than feeding, and the general maintenance---ignore them like a piece of furniture. Don't call them to you, actually, don't talk to them. Try this approach for a couple of weeks and see just how fast they change their minds. Cats are semi-psychic and can (at times) almost read your mind, so anything you want them to do---you can bet, they're NOT going to do it, just to mess with you. That's just some of the antics of the Kitty-world. So, hang in there, all but ignore them, and I'll bet that shortly you're going to have a lap full of cats--or at least a few fights for who's going to get there first. Good luck with this.

Hi Dave, Here's an idea you might want to try! Treat your cats with complete indifference for a while and see if doing so will reap any beneficial affection!
I can't guarantee that this will work, but have noticed that it sometimes has worked for me in the past. I believe cats to be very intelligent little beings who are very clued up on psychological manipulation and if you reverse the tables with them you may benefit! (LOL)
Ever hear the old saying: "Dogs have Masters; Cats have Staff!"? I think your cats may believe that they have you sorted, and thus feel no need to waste energy or effort on you because they already own you! (Chuckle)
So don't be cruel or anything, just ignore them for a while and the curiosity of your strange behaviour may induce them to try a different type of behaviour to regain control over you! (LOL)
The reason I keep on laughing at my own writing is, that it looks a bit ridiculous to think of cats in this way (ie as being in possession of highly complex intelligence) but when I watch cats, I'm so often drawn to believe it! (Giggle!)

'Hi, Well cats are cats, they do whatever they want to do, it dosen't mean they don't love you, in fact there is an old saying A Cat Loves You More Than You Love It.(dont know who said it) its like people some like to feel close others are aloof. As they get older they seem to become more affectionate, so just bide your time and Good Luck.

Cats dont do anything that is not their own idea.... LOL! Give them kindess and love, and they will show it in return in their own way... but remember, they are not doggies, and don't show love the same way! When they rub up against you, they mark you with pheromones that say, I like this guy, he is ok.
But, be gentle, speak softly, let them come to you when they are ready... and be ready with gentle stroke and a scritch under the chin..... and they will love you in their own way, each cat is very different from every other cat as well in attitude and actions. this is the beauty of felinity!

Dave O - a dog has a master - a cat has slaves!!!

you are your cats slaves!! you have to respect and cater to their every need - its just the way of it!! Cats are aloof and in control, I personally love it - makes me laugh how they expect certain things!! In bed at night - if one gets on me - even if I am uncomfortable - I won't move a muscle for fear of waking the cat!!! ha ha ha!!!

The loyalty they show you is the fact that they come home every day to you, they let you feed them, they let you turn the fire on for them, let you do EVERYTHING for them!! it means they are loyal employers!!!

enjoy them and love them!! thats cats for you!!

My cat did the same to me for a while, I found if i fussed over her too much she would go to everybody else. Then I started to talk to her a lot giving her one stroke down her back, I know it sounds stupid but I did this thing where I looked at her very closly almost nose to nose and i'd squint into her eyes, I would then let her be, she aways came to me.

You obviously didn't realise that they are our masters and we live to provide for them. They only sit on your lap when they require some part of their body groomed while they sleep.Have you ever noticed how much consideration you put into buying the flavours of food that you think they would want.

Because cats do what ever they want. You can't bribe them withfood, fires and baths. If they dont like you, they dont. But that doesnt mean that they will say no to some TLC.
