I have not seen evidence of that. But the notion of "virgin" is overblown; it resulted from a bad translation of a Greek word that actually meant young woman.

I'm sorry that you get such a picture of protestants. If someone has expressed so, it is wrong.
Mary is the most blessed woman on the face of the earth. She deserves and should get a lot of respect from everyone. However respecting Mary does not mean worshiping or praying to her.
Further Mary did not remain a virgin. See the Mt 1:25.
Also, Mary song declares that she rejoices in God her Savior. If she had no sin why did she need a Savior? See the Mt 1:47.
Hope this helps. God Bless.

Huh? What are you talking about? I've never heard anything disrepectful said of the Virgin Mary or Mary Mag. You're making things up or confusing the disagreement Protestants have with Catholics regarding the practice of praying to Mary as "disrespect".

In general I agree with didjlord, but you are right that she certainly does deserve respect. We 'Protestants' may appear to be down on Mary as over compensation for what we see as error/borderline blaspheme on the part of the Catholic church. Mary was simply as servant of God. She carried a huge responsibility and God deemed her worthy of that. I'm certainly looking forward to meeting such a womderful woman in heaven, but beyond that, she is just like us - fallible.

I have no idea what Protestants you have met lately..... Sorry to hear that they were such disrespectful fools.....
I guess that only proves that regardless what beliefs people hold - everyone can be a jerk if they allow themselfs to be!
P.S. I must admit that I do not view Mary as being the mother of God.. She was the mother of Jesus - the Messiah...... Notice that I am only stating how I BELIEVE here..... Others do think differently and are allowed to......

Mary was predestined to be Mother of God and be associated with her divine Son in his redemptive mission that she was preserved from all sin from the first moment of her being. Hence the prerogative of the Immaculate Conception.
she does deserve respect. She bore our Saviour
God Bless You

Mary is a wonderful example of an obedient and humble servant who trusted in the Lord. We should all strive to have this same obedience and trust. She was blessed among women because God chose her to give birth to the Savior of the world. This we can agree on.
Protestants are not in any way disrespectful of Mary. She was the mother of Jesus (God, the Son). While she is a wonderful example for us to follow, we do not believe she should be prayed to (prayer IS a form of worship) or given such titles as: Mediatrix, Co-Redeemer, Advocate and Dispenser of God's Grace, and "Queen of Heaven."
I read that "in The Glories of Mary, by St. Alphonsus Delaguarie, she is identified as Mary, our Queen; Mary, our mother; Mary, our life; Mary, our sweetness; Mary, our hope; Mary, our help; Mary, our mediatress; Mary, our advocate; Mary, our guardian; and Mary, our salvation. It is said that Mary delivers us from hell, Mary delivers us from purgatory, and Mary leads us to heaven."
THIS is where we disagree. THIS is why we are so appalled. To us it seems as though Mary has taken the place of Jesus. And how could we not conclude this - what other conclusion is there to be reached? Even Pope John Paul II credited her, rather than God, with saving his life during his assasination attempt and went to pay her reverence at her shrine at Fatima!
Mary is a good example for us, but she is not worthy of such veneration and titles. Christ alone is our Redeemer - He doesn't have a Co-Redeemer!
One title in particular that the Catholic Church has given her really scares me - the Queen of Heaven. Did you know that "The Queen of Heaven" is a Babylonian title for Ishtar, a pagan goddess in the book of Jeremiah which the children of Israel were forbidden to worship under the penalty of divine judgment?
The book of Jeremiah in the Bible makes mention of this title five times (Jeremiah 7:18, Jeremiah 44:17, 18, 19, and 25), always in the context of idol worship. God was angry because of the reverence given to "The Queen of Heaven." But the people were stubborn and didn't want to stop worshipping her because they said [while worshipping her] "we had plenty of food and were well off and suffered no harm."
Please, please think and pray hard about this!
Also, last year, on a mission's trip to Venezuela, I witnessed crowds of people waiting in line outside a Catholic church(sometimes for hours) in order to pray to a piece of WOOD that supposedly had the image of Mary on it. The wood was behind a glass encasement, and some people were even kissing it. These prayers should have been directed to God! In another area of the city I saw an enormous statue of Mary, and by enormous I mean GIGANTIC proportions. She had a crown on her head, was holding something in one hand, and in the other arm was a little, teeny, tiny, baby Jesus. This alone spoke volumes to me. Please pray about this. I write this only out of sincere concern. Remember, the Lord is a jealous God.

Protestants dont worship Mary. They get uneasy when others do. She was the Mother of Jesus. But even the Angel said to her Bless are you amoung women, and bless is the fruit of your womb.

The virgin/maiden named Mary was the mother of Jesus, who was the human form of Michael/The Word. She did not continue to be a virgin. She was a married woman. Married to Joseph. She had several other children. Jesus had siblings as he was growing up and lived in a normal family. You are correct in assuming that she is deserving of respect. She is not , however, deserving of worship and should not have prayers addressed to her. ALL WORSHIP and ALL PRAYERS are to be addressed to God through the intermediary Jesus Christ. To pray to or worship anyone or anything besides God/Jehovah is idolatry.

Hail mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Asking her to pray for us is hardly worshipping her.
This is all biblical and all non-worshipping of her. It is amazing the ignorance and prejudice some people have.

By referring to Mary in such a matter, you are degrading. However, I don't believe she was literally a virgin, just the mother of Jesus.
