It is a miniature (made in silicon like integrated circuits) laboratory processor with temperature control and reagent feeds so that tests can be done more cheaply. Tiny amounts of material, say blood or urine, are supplied and by measuring the changes with time as chemicals are added, various results can be gotten automatically.
