My neighbor breed pomeranians. Recently(in the last week) one of her females came into heat. One of her male dogs mated with her three differant times, yet her other male dog(which has previosely successfully breed with another female) shows absolutely zero interest in her. These dogs all live in the house(no kennels) like a pack. We were wondering if his lack of interest could be due to the pack mentality of only the alpha male breeds. We know it isnt a health problem, because he has regular check ups with his vet. The one that mated with her is a bit younger, so could it also be that the older male just senses that it is too early in her heat for the mate to be successful and is waiting til she is more likely to become pregnant. Sorry if this is confusing, didnt know exactly how to write it out and it make sense, but if you can make sense of it please...any ideas.

None of her males are related to her females. And the two males are not related to each other.

I know alot, because I have lived by her for almost 13 years and is basically like family to me. In fact, one of my dogs came from her.

It would help to know if the "other male" had bred with her specifically before or not. But based on the info I have at hand, I'm going to say that it's not pack mentality thing. When a ***** is ine heat the scent draws every male withing "earshot". Maybe it's a personality thing. Or maybe they have blood ties too close. Do you know the Parentage of both?

If there is a health problem in the male, he wont bread. It could be a tooth ache, or, something, stymie problem, dogs are not caring but if the male is not feeling his best, they will not bread. Not if there is another male. I have dogs, I have older males, one is having teeth problems, and when my female came in, he just walked away, so, the pain is worse then the smell.
So they don't smell with toothaches

Dog's don't care... if his own mother goes in heat he might get busy! Maybe the older dog isn't interested! It could be just that simple.

You sure know alot of the breeder's details for only being the neighbor.
Funny how it's always my neighbor's, my brother's, my girlfriend's sister's cousin's 3 times removed, uncle's dog....
