Actually, I already know the answer, but other people's views on the question allow me to learn more about how other people relate to God. Or indeed, don't. I'm just curious.

It's okay for anyone, Christian or not.

Some religious organizations have ways of keeping people out of their churches, and though this doesn't keep you from knowing God, it's the wrong attitude toward a religious experiences God intended as a free gift.

Well of course. I think that as long as you are a good person you can know God. I'm sure that whoever is up there is so good that he's not going to look at you if you are Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddist, or anything else. We are all the same. Our hearts, minds are made from the same love up there. The important thing is to be a good person. By the way God is not only Christian. Even the Jews call him God and so to the Muslims. It's just that each one believes different things that God said/did and other things that happen and will happen.

Totally. I'm not a Christian. I was for quite awhile but I really got tired of the hypocrisy and self righteousness I encountered. I also didn't like that fact that I wasn't suppose to question anything. I don't follow blindly and I guess that some frown upon that. Whatever.

I relate to God in the same way as I did when I was a Christian. I still don't force my opinions down people's throat and I still do my best to treat people like I want to be treated. I'm still the same, I just don't feel as oppressed as I did. I started listening to myself instead of other blowhards who thought they knew what I should or shouldn't be doing.

You can believe in whatever you want and I believe this is what you know. I feel like I 'know' God but it has not much to do with the Christian concept. Perhaps you could investigate other religions if you want to share your beliefs or you can just be happy knowing your God. I would consider myself to be more spiritual than religious. I believe in myself and I believe in karma.

It's interesting that you'd put up a question when you think you have nothing to learn on the subject. I wonder if it is a reflection of your thinking about God?

For what it's worth I disagree with all of the above.
I think it's time we nailed our colours to the mast and are straight with people.
You can only know God up to a point if you're not a Christian.

Firstly
The key question here isn't can you know God as a non-Christian but can you know God without being willing to be changed by him... you can never know something as powerful as who God is by only engaging your brain as if it's some sort of intelectual persuit you can maintain a healthy distance from. It's like falling in love - you only really know someone if you're willing to risk being in a relationship with them.

I'm with NT Wright on this one
"To know God is to worship him - not to have this reaction is a fairly sure sign that you haven't fully understood who he is or what he has done."

Secondly
Jesus states in John's Gospel that it is the Holy Spirit that makes God known to us as he lives within the heart of the believer. How ever this relationship is obviously on offer to anyone who wants it.

It's an interesting question though, I'm studying theology at Oxford Uni and a few months ago someone asked one of the doctrine lecturers if a nonChristian can study theology to the same depth as a Christian. The lecturer basically said you can know about God as the study of what other people believe (religious anthropology) but you can't really know God unless you're willing to risk being in a relationship with him.

Well of course it's ok for you to know about God. When you know God then you are a true born-again Christian and Jesus Christ dwells in you. It's like this example, do you know war (as in were you in war and you know how it feels to be in war) or do you know about war (as in have you heard about the war). When you know God then it means you trust HIm that you believe him and yo know Him as your Lord and Saviour.

But it's good that you want to know God, it means that God's grace has fallen on you. God bless you.

I wouldn't let other people govern your decisions when dealing with religion. This is your faith, no one else's. Honestly, its ok to know or believe anything, as long as your heart is in the right place

Whatever religion u r or not and what u choose to call it....is up to u. By naming the "higher being" it just puts u in a group who call it the same thing.

ABSOLUTELY!

You dont have to sign up for anything but His love and friendship. Just dont forget about Jesus....we cant talk to G-d if we dont know Jesus. Jesus makes us worthy of talking to G-d. Without Him G-d doesnt hear us.

BLess u in your walk!
