I have been battling this for years - had xrays and told some bones are not formed properly preventing adequate support. But, I like to jog and have gotten around this by wearing a waist back support - you can get one at Walmart for $15 or so. Pull it on low and tight - It helps the bones to stay in place and not get out of position (which is often what jars the severe pain) and also takes the pressure off the muscles which get extra strained without adequate bone support. The key is to build muscles to support the whole structure, especially the lower back muscles, even more so than the stomach. At first training the lower back muscles they will hurt even more, but will improve so much - over time you can run sometimes with no support device. To strengthen you back, lying flat on the floor do various side and behind leg lifts holding it for as long as possible, repeat 10 times, and try to do 3-4 times a week. There are also machines at the gym or get a book on exercises - they really work!! Hope this helps, let me know! By the way, use knee supports if your knees begin to ache!

The best way to strengthen your core (trunk) is to get a balance ball. It does take some practice to be able to move with out losing your balance but as your back and abs get stronger it will be easier.

What I found best is to get the one that comes with a video to get an idea of what to do.

I also use the ball for a chair it helps me to sit up straight and when I am at my PC I do some exercises just be careful not to over do it at first.

Some back pain is caused from shoes that don't fit well or have enough support. Get a good arch support. And a good quality shoe and that can make all the difference in the world.

email me if you need some ideas on what exercises to do on the ball.
