Because there is a hole in our hearts yearning for Truth. Because of every creature on the planet we are the only ones who ask questions like this, we desperately want to find others like us.

This is ironic as I'm watching "Everybody Loves Raymond" and it is the episode where his daughter asks him what the meaning of life is and the whole family is trying to figure it out.
At any rate, I don't think it *must* be addressed. I'm pretty sure my husband doesn't have a clue to the meaning of life and he's pretty darn okay with that.
But if you want to know, you should find out. If it is a burning question for you, that is something you need to explore for yourself.
Because as I've figured it out for myself, I'm also well aware that my definition of the meaning of life may be entirely different than someone else's.
So, I guess my answer is, if you feel it must be addressed, address it. But don't assume that your answer will be the cookie cutter answer for everyone else and that those who don't care to explore the topic shouldn't be pressed to do so. I learned that one the hard way.

It's an academic exercise. People wonder and need answers. Some choose religion. Others choose some pop-psychology answers. When you are young, you can't possibly know what life is all about, so it's a question that really is mind-boggling. When I was in college and I thought I knew everything, it was cool to try to answer it.
The question has no answer. Frankly, I would say there is no "meaning" to life, but you can give your life meaning. You have to decide what is important to you. I would say that getting involved in your family or your community is a good way to add meaning to life. If you ever read the Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundra, you get a sense of the paradox of meaning of life. The book basically tells you that if you care about people you will care a heavy burden, but life will be light, because caring about people gives you meaning. However, if you don't choose to care, life will be light. You will not have as much misery, because if anything happens to anyone you know, it won't affect you. But that would be unbearable because your life would be meaningless and hollow. It would be a great burden.
I think that we are biological beings programed by evolution to care about other people. It's in our genes. If we don't care about others, our lives become meaningless. We are doomed to either have relationships or feel hollow. Perhaps it is because eons of human evolution where people who didn't need others perished and those who wanted others around survived and bred more people who wanted others around. As such, having others around and having relationships with those people became the meaning in life.

It's just human nature but it does seem that if the meaning of life wasn't so obscure then life might be easier...yet boring. I think it is a beautiful thing that it is addressed..because it means that one is questioning, yearning and searching...which makes us alive. I don't think that many people ever even attempt to contemplate that question which means they may lead a very boring material superficial life. I think if you ask then you will naturally embark on a lifelong journey to find what holds meaning for you and that will be a beautiful journey.

Why do you ask that question? Do you think it has to be addressed? We ask because we are curious, we answer because someone asks and we desire to answer because we desire to answer it. Maybe some of us feel lost, or disconnected from some thing they have been told they are supposed to be connected to, and feel no connection and feel because of that there is something wrong with them so there for they ask so maybe the answer will help them feel connected.------Because we want to be connected to something so that our existence has meaning no matter whether the question ever arises-----

Because waking up and doing a lot of annoying stuff (like work) to obtain money to obtain food needs a more important purpose behind it than "just because".
