1,024 Byte = 1 Kilobyte (KB)
1,024 Kilobyte (KB) = 1 Megabyte (MB)
1,073,741,824 Bytes = 1 Gigabyte (GB)
1 Gigabyte (GB) = 1,024 Megabyte (MB)

(For approximation, you can say 1GB = 1000MB)

So your 512MB card is half the capacity of the 1GB card.

I'm assuming you are talking about a SD memory card for your phone. MB stands for megabites, and GB stands for gigabites. There are 1024 megabites in one gigabite, 512MB is half the size of one GB; 1024 megabites.
