A vaccine is only good if you are vaccinated before exposure. About 80% of people exposed to hep b clear it on their own (after a period of acute breakout & being contagious), but it can be dangerous if you go on to have it chronically. You can also have it and not have any symptoms. Blood tests can show if it's chronic or acute. If it is chronic, then there are drugs you can take. The newest drug is Pegasys, and it may clear the virus (but I'm not sure what the success rate is for HBV). A drug that's been around longer is lamivudine, but there is a high chance that after a year or two, you develop resistance to the drug and it will no longer work. Check out an online organization for HBV for more accurate information or ask your liver specialist (hopefully you are seeing a gastroenterologist or infectious disease doctor). Best wishes.

No, there isn't a cure for Hepatitis B. But most people recover and have no symptoms after 6 months. Treatment involves getting enough rest, eating a healthy diet, and avoiding alcohol. Your health care provider will check to make sure your liver is working normally by doing a liver function test on a blood sample.

Some people carry the virus without symptoms and can pass it on to others. Hepatitis B can also cause symptoms that last for a long time, and can cause permanent liver disease, including cancer of the liver.

Wow. I've seen people with Hep B and people without it. Most of them don't just get better and live happily ever after. There is no cure, but there is a great vaccine available out there. Mine was free (health-care practitioner) but for the patients it runs about 150 bucks; well worth the money. Hope that this helped you out.
