canary birds?

i getting a canary bird but i not very know about this kind of species, so what kind of species is good at singing and what is the price range for a good canary bird and where can i get it pls advice....?

Hi! A canary can be a really nice addition to a home. They are a type of finch, originally found on the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. The wild birds are an olive green. Domestic canaries have been bred to be a number of different colors, from white to red. The classic canary is yellow.

Only male canaries sing, so be sure to buy a male. If song is your highest priority there are several breeds that excel in this area. I used to breed American Singers, which have a really nice song, with a lot of variety. They are hardy birds, and are bred to sing even under less than ideal conditions. Rollers are another variety that is song bred. Their song is quieter and really beautiful. The ideal Roller has no harsh notes in their song at all.Borders are nice. Their song tends to be a bit choppy, but they sing freely and are attractive birds.

As far as price range, males are more expensive, which isnt suprising. Its been a couple of years since I had to get out of breeding birds, but I would expect to pay between $75 and $100 in the United States from a breeder. I dont recommend buying from a pet store. You dont know what you are getting.

Get the largest cage you can afford. Feed a good quality canary seed blend. Add fresh fruits and vegetables, especially dark green leafy veg like brocolli or kale. Cooked carrot and sweet potato were big favorites with my bird. A cuttlebone hung in the cage is a good source of calcium. Some hard boiled egg with the shell on is good, just be sure to remove it from the cage within an hour so it doesnt spoil and make your bird sick.

just remember this only the males sings,best to get a male and a hen and when the time of year is right just listen to him sing
