My son is 28 months old, and has mastered the art of potty training. Stays 100% dry during the day for approx. last 5 weeks. Well, for the last 2.5 weeks, he has been staying dry at night. My question is, since he hasnt been staying dry at night for long, I still put a diaper on him at bed time. I use the diapers, because I cant really afford the pullups. Well, the last two days, he has had three or four day time accidents, and I was wondering if this could be due to the fact that I put daipers on him at night, or is it just a normal regression thing. I know alot of kids will regress back to having accidents after potty training, and then go back to no accidents with no more problems. Or could the accidents be due to the fact that he has a head cold and has been sick for a few days? This may sound like rambeling, but I am a first time single mother, and have never had to potty train a child before, so im not completely sure what is normal and what is not. Am i just over thinking this?

With him being sick could be alot of it. When they feel icky, they don't want to do much. I would feed him some crackers to help absorb extra fluid in his belly and take him to the potty more often during the day time. The diapers shouldn't have anything to do with it. When he is feeling better, everything should be back to normal.

Don't worry too much, sounds like he hasn't been feeling too great and has found it difficult to get to the potty in time! Colds can really sap your energy. A lot of kids do regress and then progress again. Sounds like he is doing really well though when he is well. Maybe you could put a nappy on him while he is unwell, if the accidents are worrying you, but it all sounds quite normal.

I don't have experience with potty training, at least yet, but I just wanted to say that you're doing a good job. I was a single mom, too, for a while and know it's tough, but you sound very attentive and responsible, and not at all like a crazy rambling woman. I'm sure it's just a phase, coupled with being sick, and he'll be back on track soon.
