I love all dogs, but had always considered myself a big dog person. Then my husband bought me a small fawn colored short haired Chihuahua, lets just say I was totally smitten. I love Chihuahuas, and I hate the bad rap they get. My 2 babies are not yappy or snappy, and they live with 4 small children. They only bark if someone is at the door, or they think someone is hurting a family member. They play with my Bulldog, cat, and ferrets. They were super easy to train, and I swear they understand almost every word out of my mouth. They know when they see the leash to come and put it on for their walk, or when I take out the carrier to get in it and sit down cause we are going bye-bye. They love to go almost anywhere and are happy to stay in their carrier if they must, so long as they get loving from everyone they see. My Chi's like everybody, but I am their favorite. These are the best little dogs in the world, but they do require a lot of attention. They are most happy when being loved on by their owner.

Since I was a child I have been raised along side breeds of dogs that people take for being vicious man eaters......pitbulls, rottweilers, mastiffs, bulldogs, boxers, I have even owned labs, hounds, spaniels, and mutts. I believe that the best dogs are only the way they are because of the love and respect that they are given by their owners.........same goes for the bad dogs......you treat a dog badly and they will have mental issues of some sort. To this day my favorite dog is the beautiful.....loyal......and friendly boxer. They are great with me and my family......especially my kids....thats the most important.

I'm actually quite impressed with the Catahoula breed. My fiancee has one-she is extremely intelligent-an excellent hunter and a great watch dog (all traits of the breed). I've never been one for over-the-top eager dogs-and have usually preferred cats-but she has won me over.

CHIHUAHUA!! [Ok, this is just MY personal view!]

Chi's are Very Smart. Very Loyal. [act] Very Tough ;-P. Low Excercise [I play fetch with a small ball, IN the house!] VERY HUMAN LIKE. Incredible.
I hated small 'yappy' dogs, but had a Chi 'grow on me' and bought one. I now own Two and have had a total of Four in my time. They Never cease to amaze me! BUT they are MORE than a dog, you need to have a hell of a lot of LOVE and Time to give. This isnt a breed you can ever 'throw' in the yard and forget!
But they will LOVE YOU UNBELIEVABLY AND UNCONDITIONALY. Its amazing how my girl tries to 'Protect' me. - u soon realise thats the only time they 'yap' ..its for you. to 'Save' you. thats all. they dont do it all the time. just when they care/worry for you. BEST BREED IVE OWNED and Ive owned many! [dalmation, german shepherd, tibetan spaniel, rotti x labrador, maltese...]
BUT again, they must suit your lifestyle! they need a predominantly at home [or happy to take them Everywhere ;-P] kind of person.. :-)

:)

Happy researching!

As for solid purebred...

Schnauzer (mini to be specific because that's what I have.) But I'm told all are awesome.

Also try mixed breeds, that tends to lessen the inherited flaws. Like pugs have bad breathing due to small nasal cavaties..but mixed with something else they usually breed well enough.

Collies - The are a very gentle loving family dog. very smart, Great with kids of all ages. and protective. Don't let the lassie look fool you either. They can be quite aggressive when their family is threatened.

Well I like mix breeds, but for pure breds I love labs! In the summer my sister and I got our first puppy! He was a golden lab, he was the cutest thing ever and his name is Dodger. But after a month my mom sold him :(

Labs are friendly and smart, often used for guide dogs. They have short hair and they're very cute. But they also get very big very quickly!

I love Border Collies (very intelligent)

golden retrievers( intelligent, affectionate, and great with kids)

border terriers..(small and so darn cute)

and mixed breeds from a shelter (they need homes, make very good dogs, and are very grateful to you.....they know where they could still be).

Basset Hounds. Cute. Friendly. Good with kids. Almost as lazy as I am. Long ears. Not too big. Not too small. The perfect dog, as far as I am concerned.
