There are many problems with the salvation-by works doctrine of reincarnation. First, there are many practical problems. For example:
1. We must ask, why does one get punished for something he or she cannot remember having done in a previous life?
2. If the purpose of karma is to rid humanity of its selfish desires, then why hasn't there been a noticeable improvement in human nature after all the millennia of reincarnations?
3. If reincarnation and the law of karma are so beneficial on a practical level, then how do advocates of this doctrine explain the immense and ever-worsening social and economic problems - including widespread poverty, starvation, disease, and horrible suffering - in India, where reincarnation has been systematically taught through out its history?
There are also many biblical problems with believing in reincarnation. For example, in 2 Corinthians 5:8 the apostle Paul states, "We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord." At death, the, the Christian immediately goes into the presence of the Lord, not into another body. In keeping with this. Luke 16:19-31 tells us that unbelievers at death go to a place of suffering, not into another body.
Further, Hebrews 9:27 assures us that "man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment." Each human being LIVES ONCE as a mortal on earth, DIES ONCE, and then FACES JUDGMENT. He does not have a second chance by reincarnating into another body.

Depends on what karma you mean. I subscribe to the original view of Karma. In Eastern Traditions it is neither "Good" or "Bad" and not accumulated, it's just the events in life that will happen regardless of our planning. Karma actually means "That which is."
the New Age teaching bothers me, as it's karma influenced by dualism. Those two don't go well together.
So, if he means the first karma, I disagree, and if he means the second, I agree.

Actual Karma = Each thing is both 'good' and 'bad'. Good for one and bad for the other. eg 1 person wins lotto = everyone else losing. You get the job, someone else does not.
This Karma is true. The same circumstance can be BOTH good and bad. Good for one Bad for another. This Karma teaches to be objective and content.
This Karma of 'What goes around comes around', is BS. This is a 'Revenge' type Karma usually. Or a 'reap what you sow' type teaching, which is not always true This Karma implies Divine Providence of some sorts. And is not what was intended with 'Karma''. This one is BS

It is. We Americans are proof positive of it. Witness the homeless person become millionaire and go back to homeless and so on ad infinitum in just one lifetime. There is only half-truth in karma. (evil reaping evil which all humans know anyway) The falsehood is the part about reincarnated to "work off" the bad karma. There is a final judgement but we aren't going to reincarnate through different beings to "work anything off". Neither are any of us "lower" than the rest because of "bad karma" and because any of us were born in "bad" circumstances or poverty.

There are certain merits to the believe of Karma. If you do good things, good thing will happen to you.
It is relatively true in most case. If you are nice to people, people will generally be nice to you in return.
Teaching of Karma is a way to preach good social and ethical practices. I don't think it is full of ... Ask your boy friend what is a good way to help the world a better place if he think karma is waste of time.

If your boyfriend studied the universal law of karma and reincarnation, he might come to agree that it is the only thing that makes sense in this world of ours.
I believe karma is very real and applies to all. We all must be accountable for our actions.

Karma seems to be the teachings of accountability for those who don't believe in God or have to be accountable to him. With Karma, if you don't believe in God, then you still will get what you have coming.

I believe in karma. Everything that goes around, comes around. Sometimes it takes awhile for the bad stuff to hit the people that put it out in the first place but, I've found it always catches up to them.
