I am a single 19 year old with a $300 rent and a car that is paid for. With my unemployment I make $828 a month and to be honest, in the 5 weeks I have not been working to date, I've only received one check for 207 (one week) and I NEED the money and help...will I be able to qualify? Please NO smart alec remarks. Thank you!

They would count your income minus your rent, utilities, etc and base your amount on that. So, you should have no problem. Being on unemployment income has nothing to do with whether you get stamps.. as long as it's reported. You will have to work at leat 20 hours a week to get food stamps .. they will give you so long to find a job and then they will stop the stamps. Have you talked to places like salvation army, churches, etc. They can usually help you short term... churches will buy you food at times, pay high utilities (or a % of it). It will take you at least 30-45 days to get stamps IF you qualify..from date of application.

Ignore these AHoles that want to criticize.. They have apparently NEVER been bad enough off to need help or they would have different attitudes.. It's there for hard times.

Go apply for the food stamps! You never know until you try, but it seems like you would qualify, those programs are there for people in your situation. And don't listen to anyone on here that gives you a hard time, all of us need help sometimes unless you come from a rich family, which many of us do not. There are also food banks in every city and they really are there to help. I know I have been there.

Probably not. You might be able to qualify for assistance from the local government but state food stamps will not let you because you will be getting unemployment. I would call the unemployment office to see where you are in getting your checks. You might have to sell your car if things get really bad. Hopefully you live in an area that has a good transportation system.

Good luck to you.

oh the nastiness of some...

I do not know what the requirements are in California but you probably can qualify for some assistance. Think now while you are young about furthering your education so that you can get a better job and make more money. There are things that you can complete in a year or so.

I don't know if you're qualified there or not but I would surely give it a try. You're facing economic hardship right now and that's what the food-stamp program is for, so go for it. Bring it all the documents needed so you won't have to keep going back and forth or delay the process.

based on your income you appear to qualify. you must still meet other rules. you need to have less than $2000 in resources (don't count your car), not have any warrents, drug felonies (if felony is for possesssion only you may still qualify), if you are a student you must meet student requirements, those are the basics but there are over 700 laws for food stamps. you can check out the states website under regulations at http://www.dss.cahwnet.gov/cdssweb/

No. Sorry. They won't care. Try share, food bank, red cross and salvation army, and your church if you have one. Time to cash in any favors. Good luck.
