I'm dating a student from France. He's eventually going to return to France after he's done with his school stint here in the States. I know our relationship is kind of doomed based on this fact, so why the hell am I partaking in a relationship with an expiration date?

I'm confused. I want to break up with him to save myself the hurt later. What's the point of it all?

I think a broken heart could make you stronger. Well that might sound stupid but living and learning is one of the best methodologies..at least to me it is. It's not like it would be a surprise...which would be even harder.

I don't think the relationship is "doomed" cuz it could be a great thing.....unfortunately w/an expiration on it...but you could remain good friends...and then some! Many good things COULD come from this relationship....if you are willing to risk feeling sad when you part.

You never know what could happen unless you take a chance. It is up to you ultimately but think of the fun you could have w/him in the mean time? Plus who knows what could happen from now til then. Who says he might not want to come back or you go there? You are young and may have some heart breaks or tough times in life. I think it will ultimately make you stronger.

Best wishes to you guys! I hope you figure it out.

It sounds like you are already in love and if you break up now you will be just as hurt. Enjoy the relationship while you can. It's not always easy to find someone you want to love. Also remember, you are from different countries not different planets. If it's meant to be it will be. Else, you will always remember your hot fling with the french foreign exchange student!
