What gifts did eating that fruit bestow on mankind? Was it intelligence (suggesting we were no smarter than chimps before)? If you take it literally...what was the knowledge we received? Knowledge of the difference between Good and Evil? If that's so, how come we still need to teach our children right from wrong?

The knowledge of sin.

Adam and Even knew everything they needed to know to survive and grow. They only lacked the knowledge of sin. The fruit didn't give them this knowledge, the act of eating the fruit gave them the experience of the knowledge.

I would not consider it a gift, it wasnt supposed to be something good that we received anyway. Was it intelligence, maybe. I could consider intelligence not a good thing. We could go through life with blinders on living like animals on instinct alone and I think we would be happier in that state, ignorance is bliss. Chimps are intelligent by the way.

They received the practical experience of being separated from God, living under the evil dominion of Satan, of being enslaved, and living under the constant fear of death.

They also acquired the ingrained tendency to be attracted to sin, rather than the things of God.

Thats' why a redeemer was necessary, as well as the Church, and that's why you need to teach your children the difference between right and wrong.

Knowledge of good and evil.
Children don't have to be taught to be rebellious (walk into a store watch and listen to even very young (undisciplined) children.Do I need to mention screaming, cursing their parents, grabbing and destroying merchandise (there parents didn't pay for). This is why very young kids need to be taught right from wrong. This is what we learned because of Adam and Eve wanted to rebel against God and have the Knowledge of good and evil.

I would agree with the answers given here by my brothers and sisters in Christ, but would like to add one:

SHAME. The first thing they did after eating was recognize their nakedness and went and covered themselves with fig leaves. The shame of our own bodies was a curse that came as a result of eating from the tree.

God bless!

Not the knowledge of good and evil, so much as the ABILITY to know the difference between good and evil, and possibly other manifestations of self consciousness.

Consider there were two trees in the midst of the garden one was the tree of life eat of this tree and you never die. Also consider the two natures of God He is both righteous and merciful...feel free to e-mail or message me.

Edit Tree of knowledge of good and evil represents God's rightousness...man could not live up to the law.

Tree of life...God's Mercy eat of this and live forever...Manna from heaven Salvation...Jesus Christ.
