In a nutshell:
Buddhism is the teaching of Buddha that life is permeated with suffering caused by desire, that suffering ceases when desire ceases, and that enlightenment obtained through right conduct and wisdom and meditation releases one from desire and suffering and rebirth
Hinduism is characterized by a caste system and belief in reincarnation. Hinduism is a body of religious and philosophical beliefs and cultural practices, characterized by a belief in reincarnation and a supreme being of many forms and natures, by the view that opposing theories are aspects of one eternal truth, and by a desire for liberation from earthly evils.

Answers above clearly show that people do not know about Hinduism and they dont know about Buddhism!!!
Knowing hinduism through casteism etc is work of an under-developed brain, tainted by bad publicity of westerner media
Buddhism is an offshoot of Hinduism. Sankhya Philosophy of Hinduism is the basis of buddhist beliefs. Sankhya philosophy does not believe in a Personal God or prophet or saviour, so does Buddhism.
Buddhists do not believe in God, Soul, prophets, hells and heavens... just like Sankhya of hinduism
In a general term hinduism believes in God, Avtaars, hells and heavens
Buddhism believes in Karma and Reincarnation...so does hinduism
Both faiths have many things in common and certain things a little different
Tibetan Buddism is nothing but a sort of Tantra practices of Hinduism.

There are both completely different. In general, Buddhism is the belief in the teachings of Buddha. Hinduism is a religions that believes in hundreds of gods and goddesses (literally). Hinduism also has many sacred books (they are actually pretty interesting to read). I can't remember what the sacred book(s) are in Buddhism.

Hinduism is much older than buddhism. Buddhism came about about 500 BCE. Hinduism has multiple gods, buddhism has no god.
