Both Iberville Parish and the city of New Iberia are located to the west of New Orleans. They are closer to Lafayette, and why they are in the coastal areas of the state, they are located in the marshy area, and the flooding was not as severe. They can still heavy storm surges from a direct hit though.

Do you mean Iberville Parish? If so, yes it is a coastal Parish and sustained flooding during the storms.
