The delayed entry program is just swearing that you'll ship off to basic training at a later date .
You're not officially in the military and not subject to the Ucmj .
No matter what anyone tells you ..You can back out of the dep program very easily. It 's only difficult once you ship off and swear into the military.

I am in the Marine Corps, the Delayed Entry Program starts between a year and a month before you are of age or a graduate from high school. It is not for a fact certain that you have to join if you change your mind in that year. The reason you can change your mind is because when you sign the paper you are still a minor, not of legal age of signing contracts. I was also in the Delayed Entry Program. They will not tell you that you can say no, but you can.

The delayed entry program is where you enlist in a branch of the military, but do not report to basic training until a later date.
When you join the DEP, you are basically declaring your intent to join the military branch you have signed this with. There are some circumstances in which you would be able to void the contract, but very few. You will be committing to usually an 8 year contract between active and reserve duty time.
There are very few ways to quit the military once you have signed up with them.

All contracts are 8 years. It's a matter of how it's broken up.
I don't know alot about the DEP, but my assumption would be that you would have to at least serve 3 active and 5 inactive.
The Army National Guard has a split option where you can join between your junior and senior of high school and go to basic training the summer between your junior and senior year and finish when you graduate from high school.
It's a good deal when you think that you can retire at 37.

These other people are right about the Delayed part. However, you can sign all the papers that you want to and until you raise your right hand AT basic training, you have the option to say no. They might threaten you and tell you that you can't get out of it but you can. Good luck to you.

No you cannot live in military housing as a DEP unless you are a dependent of AD personnel. Or if the housing is PPV and they are allowing Postal workers, DoD personnel, Retirees and Reservists live in there because they have lots of available housing. That though doesn't happen in many location.
