Some of the top features of Windows Vista include:
-SEARCH: You can search from practically anywhere and instantly find what you're looking for, whether it be a program in the Start Menu, a setting in Control Panel, a song in Windows Media Player, or a topic in Internet Explorer.
-SECURITY: You'll be protected with free antispyware software that automatically detects and removes spyware. Internet Explorer includes a Phishing Filter that lets you know if a website is illegitimate. Windows Vista also includes parental controls so you can limit the games, websites, and times of day other users, such as children, can access the Internet.
-MULTIMEDIA You can burn DVDs of your favorite videos and picture slideshows. Windows Media Center is a full-screen application viewable from up to 10 feet away where you can watch & record TV, listen to music, look at picture slideshows WHILE listening to music, and look at online content from providers such as MTV, Nickelodeon, and Fox Sports.
USER INTERFACE: Windows Vista is a beauty to look at, with translucent window borders, animated window effects, and the ability to look at all of your current windows in 3D. The new user interface is also functional, with live previews of all of your windows by just hovering over them, icons that show you the content of your files (i.e. pictures, documents, videos), and an easier-to-navigate file explorer.
SIDEBAR: Shows you different gadgets on a variety of subjects such as the time, the weather, stock quotes, currency converter, media player, IM contacts. There are many gadgets that you can customize your sidebar with.
Those are just some of the changes. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of changes to Windows, most of which you will not be aware of but no less appreciate as greater convenience for navigating your system.

Windows Vista has greatly improved the search function from that of XP
But I get the feeling that a better search function won't do you any good at all
